SEWELL — The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced that free monthly eye screenings have resumed. This free service is provided by the Gloucester County Division of Human and Disability Services and New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
The program is open to all residents four years of age and up, but children between the ages of four and 17 require the signature of a parent or guardian.
The screenings will take place at the Gloucester County Health Department at 204 East Holly Ave. in Sewell. Appointments are required and will be held between 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “Many families do not have insurance that covers optometry but everyone can get an eye exam through this program simply by making an appointment.”
Freeholder Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services, said, “Eye care is as important as any other healthcare. Half of all vision loss could be prevented by early detection of disorders and appropriate follow up care. Eye diseases, like Glaucoma, can cause vision damage and eventual blindness without the patient experiencing any symptoms.”
