BRIDGEPORT– At their meeting on March 15, the Logan Township Council recognized their community’s employees for earning a 2015 TRICO JIF Safety Incentive Program award. Logan Township received $2,925.00 for their performance in the Program.

In 2015, TRICO JIF members competed for awards against standards set by the Executive Safety Committee. The members went up against the established standards to determine whether they qualified for an award or not.

Joint Insurance Commissioner Doris Hall lauded the efforts of Logan employees in receiving the award. In a letter to Logan Township Mayor Frank Minor and the Council, JIF Executive Director Paul Miola congratulated Hall, Safety Coordinator Brian Zane and Claims Coordinator Margaret Smith for their role in the award.

Miola noted that they had effectively communicated the importance of the safety program, and committed to the continuing safety of Logan Township employees.

The award is scheduled to be celebrated at the JIF Annual Safety Kickoff Breakfast on April 5.

Council passed a series of resolutions at the meeting. They approved renewal of the Bridgeport Speedway racing license for the 2016 season, and also granted permission for the Speedway to have overnight camping with campfires on specifically scheduled event dates.

Logan Township Police Department Lieutenant Joseph Flatley expressed concerns that the police had to receive access in the event of an emergency, and the Speedway agreed.

Also, Council adopted a resolution authorizing payment to Levy Construction Company the amount of $140,287.00 for recreational improvements to Township Line Park. Councilmember Stephen Dougherty said the project was moving along on schedule, and he’d heard nothing but good things about the work. Councilmember Chris Morris agreed that feedback had been good.

And Council approved a grant agreement that would give the Logan Township Fire Department a Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant in the amount of $2,363.00. “It’s not an exorbitant amount of money, but it’s certainly for a worthy cause,” commented Dougherty.

The Council also passed a resolution authorizing disposal of 1992 Sutphen fire apparatus through a propertyroom.com online auction.

Council authorized temporary closure of Beckett Road beginning at Grace Baptist Church for the Township Little League Opening Day Baseball Parade. Permission was also granted for Chinese Auction and 50/50 raffle licenses for the Kingsway Field Hockey Booster Club on April 9.

And they granted conditional approval for the use of athletic fields to the South Jersey Warriors 12 and under baseball team, the South Jersey Blue Jays 12 and under boy’s baseball, and 10 and under girl’s softball. To receive full permission, Council requested documentation from the Little League Boards involved that they were in agreement on the application terms.

In his police report, Flatley announced that the department had seen mobile vision cameras installed in its vehicles in February. And in Public Works, Superintendent Mike Riley reported that his department had taken down the snow fences around the town. Riley agreed that the Township Line Park improvements were on schedule, and said Public Works would be working on the fields for spring activities.
