John J Adams Memorial Scholarship Winners

SWEDESBORO — Each year two $1,000 scholarships are given out to students who best exemplify the life of Judge John J. Adams and his dedication to civic and charitable endeavors. This year’s recipients for the 2017 academic year are Maria Goitiandia and Donovan Hill.

Maria is a member of the 2017 graduating class at Kingsway Regional High School. In school, Maria excelled in Public Speaking and Debate but it was outside of the classroom that Maria earned considerable recognition as a Delegate to Princeton Model Congress and NJ Model Congress. Maria will attend American University in Washington DC.

Donovan Hill

Donovan Hill

Donovan Hill is a member of the 2017 graduating class of Newark High School in Delaware. During his years in high school, Donovan excelled academically with a 4.17 GPA while being a part of numerous senior clubs and also wrote an original play which was performed at the Delaware Youth Playwright Festival. Besides the Arts, Donovan has a passion for Political Science, Math, Business and was an instrumental part of the school’s first student run Credit Union. In the fall, Donovan will attend Roanoke College in Virginia.

The namesake of the scholarship, John Adams, was a 1975 graduate of Newark High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Delaware and Emory University School of Law.  His passion for history and the arts lives on through this memorial scholarship.

John became a Prosecutor and a Judge and was well known for his sense of humor.
