The police department has responded to numerous reports of vehicles being broken into over the past two weeks with items being stolen and effects rifled through. In every instance, the vehicle was left unsecured. We would like to remind everyone to lock their car doors and never leave valuables inside. The incidents are occurring in the overnight hours and have predominantly in the Greenfields development. We urge all residents to report any suspicious activity immediately to County Dispatch at 856-589-0911. If you see something, say something.

Oct. 31: Police investigated an attempted burglary on Nortonville Road in which someone forced entry through a first floor window. Nothing was reported missing or otherwise disturbed. Detectives are processing evidence that was left at the scene.

Nov. 2: A Main Street resident reported that an acquaintance stole her laptop computer sometime over the past several days. Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft, and complaints may be pending.

Nov. 3: A Hancock Street resident reported that someone tampered with her front door locks in a possible attempted burglary. The incident occurred over the past several days and rendered the locks inoperable.

Nov. 3: Officers charged a 30 year old Deptford woman with theft following an investigation at a business on the 600 block of Heron Drive. The woman had credited her personal credit card for returns during fraudulent transactions. She conducted 25 transactions valued at $13,652. She was processed and released pending court.

Nov. 3: Representatives of McDonalds reported that an elderly white male attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill in exchange for goods at the drive-thru. The man fled in a blue, sedan with Pennsylvania tags when confronted by store employees about its authenticity.

Nov. 3: Police charged an 18 year old Logan resident with DWI following a hit and run motor vehicle complaint on Edward Drive. He was processed and released as per John’s Law pending court.

Nov. 4: Police investigated several scams involving consumers utilizing Craigslist for event tickets and vacation rentals. When utilized these services, the department would like to remind residents of the following: Deal locally, face-to-face – follow this one rule and avoid 99 percent of scam attempts. • Do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person. • Beware offers involving shipping – deal with locals you can meet in person and in a public place. • Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union) – anyone who asks you to is a scammer. • Don’t accept cashier/certified checks or money orders – banks cash fakes, then hold you responsible. • Transactions are between users only; no third party provides a “guarantee”. • Never give out financial info (bank account, social security, PayPal account, etc.). • Do not rent or purchase sight-unseen—that amazing “deal” may not exist. • Refuse background/credit checks until you have met landlord/employer in person • Recognizing scams • Most scams attempts involve one or more of the following: • Email or text from someone that is not local to your area. • Vague initial inquiry, e.g. asking about “the item.” Poor grammar/spelling. • Western Union, Money Gram, cashier check, money order, PayPal, shipping, escrow service, or a “guarantee.” • Inability or refusal to meet face-to-face to complete the transaction.

Nov. 13: Police investigated a theft by deception complaint at the WaWa on Center Square Road. Store associates reported that a daily customer had obtained an outdated “paid” stamp and was utilizing it numerous times when placing food orders. He fled the store when confronted by management. Police are reviewing surveillance and complaints are pending.

Nov. 14: Officers charged a 24 year old Salem man with two counts of theft and simple assault following an early morning disturbance at the WaWa. He was processed and released pending court.

Nov. 14: A resident on Stone Henge Drive reported that the lock to his utility trailer was removed sometime overnight. An undetermined amount of tools were reported stolen from within.

Nov. 15: Officers charged a 20 year old Tabernacle man with trespassing, operating a vehicle on lands of another and DWI following an early morning crash along Floodgate Road. He was processed and released pending court.

Nov. 15: Police investigated an internal theft complaint in which appliances and bedding are being stolen from a local distribution center.

Nov. 16: Police charged a 22 year old Carneys Point man with possession of drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property and hindering apprehension following a suspicious person’s complaint in the Vineyards development. He was processed and released pending court.

Nov. 16: Officers charged a 27 year old Pennsville woman with simple assault and filing a false police report following an incident at the WaWa. She was processed and released pending court.

Nov. 17: A 6 month investigation culminated with Detectives charging a 60 year old West Deptford man with various credit card frauds involving a former acquaintance’s credit accounts. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and service is pending.

Nov. 18: A Maryland man reported that someone forcibly entered the cargo area of his box truck and removed $2,800 worth of antiques. The incident occurred sometime overnight while the truck was parked at the Hampton Inn lot.

Nov. 18: Two 50’ trailers, a 2004 Wabash valued at $9,000 and a 1994 Strick valued at $5,000, were stolen from a Commerce Blvd. warehouse sometime over the past several days. The trailers were entered NCIC in an effort to facilitate recovery.
