Mt Aloysius‘ Matt McCourt Is AMCC PreSeason Player of the Year

CRESSON, AP. — Mount Aloysius College junior Matthew McCourt ended his sophomore year as the 2017 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Baseball Player of the Year.  Coming back strong, the League anticipates another outstanding year from the Mullica Hill shortstop and named him AMCC Preseason Player of the Year for the 2018 Spring Season.

Mount Aloysius Baseball Head Coach Kevin Kime noted that the lanky McCourt, who wears #7, led the Mounties all season and finished the regular season atop the AMCC in five different categories. “Matt finished the season with 14 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 22 double,” said Coach Kime.  “His slugging percentage was .826; he scored 48 runs in the season and finished sixth the AMCC in stolen bases with 11. We anticipate that he will once again be a major contributor on and off the field this season.”

McCourt’s performance last season won him and his Mount Aloysius team national notice. Among all NCAA Division III programs, McCourt was first in doubles, second in home runs, third in slugging percentage, fourth in home runs per game, and fifth in total bases (105).

In addition to his athletic prowess, Coach Kime also focuses on McCourt’s character. “Matt is an exceptional young man, as well as an athlete. His work on the field is matched by an abiding humility,” said Kime. “Matt puts his team first. We will look for his leadership, hard work and example over these next two seasons.”

McCourt is the third Mount Aloysius College baseball player in the past six years to earn the title of AMCC Player of the Year. Earning that title, McCourt edged out at least three LaRoche Players on a team that finished third in the nation. Last season McCourt also earned AMCC First Team All-Conference recognition.
