CUETO — Caroline Azzari Cueto of Orlando, Fla. died Oct. 7. She was born in Swedesboro,  the youngest child of the loving Azzari family.

Her childhood days were spent in the library, reading and dreaming. Her beautiful soprano voice was often heard from the loft at St. Joseph’s Church. Her young single days were spent working in Philadelphia. Her evenings were filled with family dinners and lively rounds of Pinochle and Gin Rummy among friends.

After a storied romance, she married Ben, and they moved to New York City, where she worked for Time-Life. After moving to Puerto Rico, their daughter Crista was born and the tiny island became a favorite tourist destination for relatives from the ‘boro. Their life journey then took them to Virginia, and then Florida, where Cara was born. Caroline spent those days as a hands-on mom, who was active in the PTA and the schools, but still found time for volunteer work and singing in the choir at St. Maurice.

Caroline was an aficionado of pasta, football, reading, Scrabble, and music. On Saturdays she could be found jumping on the coffee table shouting at the television while watching the Hurricanes running toward the end zone. She displayed the same enthusiasm when listening to Pavarotti’s Nessum Dorma, shouting out “Sing It!” as the tenor sang his final “Vincero.” However, nothing captured her heart as did her grandchildren, who became her precious gems during her golden years spent in Orlando, FL.

Caroline’s spirit lives on in Benjamin, her devoted husband; in her beloved daughters Crista Cueto (Firoz Dattu) and Cara Elias (Brian), and also in her grandchildren, Caroline Grace and Josey Elias, and Sabrina and Raffi Dattu. She is survived by her loving sister, Gloria Centonzo and many dear nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Rosina and Giovanni Azzari, brothers Alessio and Edavide (Dave) Azzari, and sisters Angelina Casella and Lydia Cuccinotta.

Lasting gifts can be made in her name to either the St. James Cathedral Choir of Orlando, Friends of the Music Ministry, 215 North Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32802 or to Friends of Gloucester County Public Library, 389 Wolfert Station Rd., Mullica Hill, NJ 08062.

LAUGHLIN — Joseph D. Laughlin Jr., 69. Everyone knew what Joe valued most: family. His kids’ interests shaped his own. When his wife and daughter got involved with The Salem County Young Shepherds 4-H Club, he was off in his truck picking up some sheep. Of course, they’d later become Joe’s sheep, but they won some ribbons along the way.

His son’s love of Scouting led Joe to be active in Troop 13. Long after his son had earned Eagle Scout and headed off for college, Joe still stayed involved, mentoring another generation of boys.

He attended countless dance recitals and marching band performances. He thought nothing of traveling a couple of hours to help his kids when they had a plumbing problem or locked themselves out of the house, or even just to visit for an hour.

Everyone loves the UPS man: Joe was no exception. He began working for UPS as a part-time loader during his college years, moved on to driving brown trucks and big rigs, taught other UPS employees to safely do both, and spent many years as a supervisor. He was part of the 1989 Philadelphia Air Hub planning team. After 36 years at UPS, retirement found him keeping busy, working at Swedesboro True Value and Penske, and researching family genealogy.

For years he was the care taker of the Stratton Mansion. He had the skills and tools to pull it off, the passion to make it perfect. He made friends easily and worked hard to maintain them for a lifetime. Joe made Swedesboro a friendlier town: he jogged almost every day, offering passing cars a smile and a wave.

Joe was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Stratford, NJ. He worked summers as a Beach Haven, NJ lifeguard and graduated from Sterling High School as a member of the Class of 1967. After graduation, he joined the U. S. Navy and was a Hospital Corpsman. He was assigned to the Second Marine Division. After his Honorable Discharge, he attended Camden County College and Rutgers University. Somehow Joe was able to tear his rapt attention away from the course material of a Civil War and Reconstruction class to notice the pretty girl sitting next to him.

Romance led to nuptials. Joe and Jo Ann’s marriage was blessed by two children: Joseph D. III (Liliya) and Rebecca. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Ann; his loving children, son, Joseph D. III and his wife, Liliya, and daughter, Rebecca; his brother, James (Kathleen), his mother- and father-in law, Jules and Josephine Alexander, sister- and brother-in-law, Deborah and Mark Munson, and niece and nephews, Kristine Laughlin, Andrew Laughlin, Matthew Munson, and Brandin Munson (Stella), and his constant shadow, Hayley the German Shepherd. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph D. and Florence Laughlin, and his brother-in-law, Jules J. Alexander III.

Interment, Lake Park Cemetery. The family would appreciate donations made in Joe’s memory to Boy Scout Troop 13 (Swedesboro, NJ).

MONAHON — Robert W. Monahon Jr., 60. Most days he could be found at a local lake, casting a line and wearing his well worn welder’s hat. Bob was an ever thoughtful son: every morning started with a call to his mother. Of course it came from a land line; Bob had tossed his cell phone into the lake, joyous he never had to talk to another telemarketer. But he did bend and later bought one for his daughter.

He was a complex guy but kept his meals very simple: peanut butter and butter sandwich washed down with a black and white shake. Late nights found him searching the channels for his favorites: John Wayne and Rambo movies. Growing up he was a typical big brother. One moment he’d be scaring his sisters with his alter ego “Bad Boy Louie “. The next he’d be protecting them by chasing the boys away.

One day while fishing at Lake Narriticon, Bob noticed a pretty girl riding by on her bicycle. In fact she’d ridden by him quite a few times. Bob and the late Heidi Clouser would wed and be blessed with a daughter, Rachel, and a son, the late Matthew.

He is survived by his mother, Carole Monahon, and sister, Cheryl Kappler. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Karen Sandone.

Interment Lake Park Cemetery.

Wife of the late Henry L. Scheetz, she is survived by her daughter, Theresa Harris, three grandchildren Jamie Harris (James Monforte Jr.) Bryan Harris (Patrice), and Marc Harris, five great grandchildren, James III, Jase, Jaxon, Brian Jr., and Bryce, her sister, Nancy Fredricks, and many nieces and nephews. Coles (Christin) of Pitman, loving grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of one. He was predeceased by his parents Leon Leslie Sr. and Laura Dorothy (Davis) Coles.

He founded Coles Garage Services, Inc, which became a social hangout for the folks in town, worked for Mobil Research for 33 years, and was a flag man when they opened Atco Raceway and active in the early drag racing scene in South Jersey. He loved dogs and the shore, but hated the beach. When not working at Mobil, Lee could be found at the garage.
