REPAUPO — The Repaupo United Methodist  Church hosted a “Rise Against Hunger” event on June 10.

Rise Against Hunger’s meal packaging program is a volunteer-based initiative that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.  These meal packages are shipped around the world to support school feeding programs and crisis relief.

The food stores easily, transports quickly and has a shelf-life of two years.  Forty-nine volunteers  packaged 10,800 meals in less than two hours.

In order to be eligible to participate in the program, the congregation was required to raise approximately $3,000 ($.29 per meal), provide the facility, and recruit the volunteers.  This is the second “Stop Hunger Now/Rise Against Hunger” event hosted by the Repaupo UMC congregation.

As a church, they find packaging the meals a fun, hands-on way the whole church is involved in making a difference for those we are called to serve and love. Any organization that is looking to help feed hungry kids and host an event can get more information on the Rise Against Hunger website.
