MENOLD — Edward Menold — (May 3, 1921 – Jan 19, 2013). Ed was a quiet man who worked lots of extra hours to give his children what he thought they needed. His manners were impeccable: always opened doors for ladies, carried packages for strangers and could never stand to see another struggle. He was hesitant to throw anything away: he was pretty sure that one day he’d need it. After retiring from Jack Frost Sugar he and his late wife, Eleanor, spent summers relaxing on the beach in Avalon and the pool at Ocean View Campground. It was the height of life’s enjoyment and a little treat after years of work and raising children. He enlisted in the Marines at age 18 and served in the Pacific Theatre and during the occupation of Japan. He and the late, Eleanor met in Sunday School. Their 61 year union was blessed by three children who they raised in Lindenwold: Edward, Jr. and his wife Christine, Brian and his wife, Denise all of South Harrison Twp. and the late Eleanor Dougherty; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was pre deceased by a granddaughter, Amanda. Services were held at Daley Life Celebration Studio. Burial Lake Park Cemetery, Swedesboro. MACCARONE — Sam Maccarone (Sep 28, 1942 – Feb 2, 2013). As first born son and grandson in his family, Sam was used to being center of attention. But that’s not the reason that he served as Mayor of Woolwich Twp. Community service was just part of his DNA. His father served before him, his son currently holds the position. Sam had the ability to find common ground and bring the opposing sides together. In addition he served on the Woolwich Zoning Board for 10 Years, Agway and Swedesboro Auction Boards of Directors, St. Joseph’s and St. Alfio’s Committees. Somehow he managed to squeeze in a little farming. He was raised on a farm and as a young man purchased his own on Oldmans Creek Road. If he wasn’t farming he was either thinking or talking about it. After retiring in 2000 he didn’t let his lifetime of knowledge go to waste. He joked that his second career was as a “farming consultant“, which really meant that he spent his days driving around in his truck visiting his friend‘s farms. Winters found him hunting, skiing and working as Mr. Fix It. He’d service all his trucks, tractors and plows. Sam could give you a rundown on any current events: any news channel was fine as long as it was Fox. His cooking put all the other members of the Romeo Club (Retired old men eating out) to shame and he was steady pitcher for the annual Feaster/Maccarone Easter softball games.

Sue Feaster met Sam at a family Baptism when they were teens. January 7th found them celebrating 46 years of marriage. More Baptisms would follow for their 4 children: twins; Joseph (Michelle) and Sam Jr. (Nancy), Donna, and John (Heather); and for his 6 gently teased grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers: Joseph and Anthony, and sisters, Mary String and Joanne Saia. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph and Antoinette and a sister, Rosemarie.

Burial St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations to Officer Down Inc., P O Box 552, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054 or the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill NJ 08034 will be appreciated.

Doris fed many stray cats over the years but her heart belonged to her 6 inside cats. She knew no strangers and loved her daily visit to the Logan Acme and appreciated the wonderful care her animals received by the Delaware Valley Veterinary staff. She regarded the employees of both places as friends.

Contribution in her memory to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, 1200 N. Delsea Dr., Clayton, NJ 0312 would be appreciated. Arrangements by the Cheega Funeral Home, Swedesboro.

A member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, she attended St. Joseph’s Church in Swedesboro, was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society, giving of her time and talents for the benefit of her church. She could always be found at the spaghetti dinners, the Christmas bazaars and chicken-bar-b-ques. Jo was a seamstress, making and maintaining albs and surpluses for the priest in the Parish. She also knitted for the Red Cross and was given the task of knitting sweaters for the larger men who were serving our Country during WWII. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Agnes and her husband Edward Ernest, 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

HILLERY — Judith Hillery — (Aug 9, 1940 – Feb 9, 2013). By the end of the line at Acme, Judy would have usually made a few friends. Strangers were just friends she hadn’t met. She was a domestic engineer: Judy painted, sanded, shoveled, mowed, raked, hung Christmas lights, changed storm windows and did just about every imaginable fix it job. Once while she was carrying a mower out of the repair shop her husband was holding the car door open. A passerby asked what Ron was doing. She replied, “Oh him, he’s just for decoration.” Five children and thirteen grandchildren will certainly hone your laundry skills: long before the stain stick, she could get just about anything clean.

It’s important to have some hobbies: Judy knitted afghans and sweaters and bowled. You’d best be careful if she was dealing because Judy was a legitimate card shark. With dogs her philosophy was simple, the bigger the better. She devoured books by the dozen and stored a treasure trove of trivia in her head. She’d regularly destroy the contestants on Jeopardy and crosswords were a cinch; incidentally, Oleo is a substitute for butter. The taste for chocolate might be genetic. Like her mother before her, she loved it. Making the infamous Hershey Cake will always bring back memories of Judy for the next generation. Judy made her way through life singing a happy song, literally: she was regularly seen singing and dancing down the aisles of the supermarket. Church is important, marriage is forever.

A ride on a commuter train would change her life forever. She met a young Ron Hillery. Their 52 years of marriage were blessed with five children: son, the late Ron Jr., and daughters, Mary Beth Barnes, Debra Parrelli, Colleen Gaccione, and Megan Hillery. If her girls had a disagreement with someone, so did their mom. Of course when her daughters forgave the offense, so did she. Judy cared for Ron Jr. through his disease and mourned his passing in 1994. She is survived by her sister, Louanne Cassidy. Judy’s 72 motherly years were celebrated privately at Daley Life Celebration Studio. Her final resting place is in Illinois.

He was a 1977 graduate of the Coatesville High school.

John was employed by Lacy’s Transport in New Jersey as a driver.

He is survived by his four children: Susan Bonsall of Lancaster, Daryl Bonsall, John Jr., and Gregory Bonsall, and one stepdaughter, Macayla Redrow all of New Jersey; four grandchildren; siblings, Carol S. Bolen of Coatesville and Janet L. Kretchmer of Gap.
