South Jersey Robotics Club Now Accepting New Members

robotics webWOOLWICH TWP. — Calling all students from 4th through 12th grades. South Jersey Robotics (SJR) is now accepting members to join their Robotics teams. What is better than watching robots in a movie or playing video games? Building your own robots and competing against other FIRST teams.

Robotics has two Leagues: the FIRST Lego League (FLL) accepts students in 4th to 8th grades. Their season starts the last week of August and ends the first Saturday in December with a competition at Rowan University.

SJR has partnered with the Gloucester County Library system to support FIRST Lego teams. For more information, contact your local library or Michelle Crivella, 856-241-1064. The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team accepts students in 9th to 12th grades (high school). This team builds large robots and competes year round, plus the students have an opportunity to earn college credits while having fun.

Students will learn mechanical design, electronics, pneumatics and much, much more. This team meets year round at Salem County College in Carney’s Point. And for the “big kids” out there, mentors/coaches are also needed in all areas – mechanical, electrical, programming, marketing, team spirit, organization logistics, and most importantly gracious professionalism. SJR is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote science and technology through the creation of a sustainable, robust robotics programs in South Jersey.
