WOOLWICH TWP. — The Kingsway Regional School District Board of Education took the time from their Dec. 22 business meeting to recognize Board of Education President Mark Kehoe. Kehoe resigned his post on December 31, 2014, after 19 years and eight months of outstanding and meritorious service to the Kingsway Regional School District.
He began in 1996 as representative of Woolwich Township and has served six consecutive three-year terms. Kehoe has spent the last 15 years as president, a position appointed on an annual basis by the sitting members of the Board.
Kehoe has provided leadership and direction during a time of unprecedented growth for the Kingsway community which has required multiple expansions of Kingsway’s facilities to meet the educational needs of the students. The last project was completed in September 2013 and added and/or renovated more than 100,000 square feet of classroom and auxiliary space.
“Mark Kehoe’s service has left a permanent and positive impact on the Kingsway Regional School District by providing a learning environment that will allow Kingsway students to excel in the future; has served the students and residents of the townships of East Greenwich, Woolwich, South Harrison, and Logan and the Borough of Swedesboro with fairness and dedication; and, it has been an honor and privilege to have worked with him. We will certainly miss him,” said Dr. James J. Lavender, Superintendent of Schools.
Shortly after the board recognized students for various academic and athletic achievements, Dan Battisti, having served six years as a member of the board of education, was also recognized. Battisti was presented with a special resolution and honored for his service to the Kingsway Regional School District.
Afterwards all attention turned to Kehoe. Lavender recommended that given Kehoe’s record of service, the board named the school office, the Mark R. Kehoe Administrative Offices.
Many well-wishers including his family, former board of education members, superintendents, school officials, and many past and present faculty members crowded the high school’s Café East to pay tribute to Kehoe. Lauren Boerlin, who presently serves as the Board of Education Vice-President said, “Due to Mark’s leadership and dedicated service to our school community it is appropriate and fitting for the Kingsway Regional School District to remember him, and to honor his commitment to our district.”
