DECKMAN — Christopher Curtis (Chris) Deckman, 35, of Mullica Hill, died on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Chester, PA. Born on May 14, 1981 in Olney, Maryland, he was the son of Doug and Brenda Deckman. He graduated from Clearview Regional High School with Honors in 1999 and from Rutgers University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice with Certification in Criminology and minors in Sociology and Geography. He worked for the NJ State Government, Pat’s Pizzeria, and was currently employed at Lucca Freezer and Cold Storage in Vineland.

Chris was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He was a member of the youth group and participated in many community service projects and retreats. Affectionately known to many as Deckman, Chris had a big laugh and a whole lot of personality. He had a way with words and enjoyed telling stories, spending time with friends and listening to music. He was loyal, dependable and honest to a fault, and he always had your back. His sense of humor and outlook on life will always be remembered.

Chris will be greatly missed by his forever love, Sherri Weaver, and his family including his parents, brother, Derrick Deckman and wife, Cassie and niece, Alia, brother, Daniel Deckman, paternal grandparents, Donald and Marian Deckman, and maternal grandparents, Rosanne Stephens and Irving Stephens. He will also be missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, Godparents, his many friends, and his very good dog Wilford. He was preceded in death by his maternal aunt Virginia (Ginny) Stephens with whom he was very close.

BYWRA — Delphine E. Byrwa, (nee Zakowski) age 90, of Mickleton, formerly of Jersey City, NJ was welcomed into Heaven on Dec. 26, 2016. Delphine was born and raised in Depew, NY, and lived her life as a devoted wife and a loving mother to three children and their spouses, and leaves a legacy of many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. Beloved wife of 60 years to the late John T. Byrwa; devoted mother of Darlene Lopez (John), John Byrwa (Kathy), and Michael Byrwa (Joan); cherished grandmother of 12; treasured great grandmother of nine; dear sister to the late Florence Guzinski; loved aunt to many.

DI BELLA — Carmen DiBella, 90. He was never more alive than when his hands were in the earth. Carmen tilled the fields at his Woolwich farm from the days of his youth growing tomatoes and peppers. He was born and bred on the farm. When the farming was done Carmen kept outdoors; he hunted the woods of South Jersey. His living room wall displays his largest buck.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church. Little did a young Carmen know that his wife, Josephine, as a young teen was interested in him. Eventually his interest turned to her and this Jan. 29 would be their 68th anniversary.

Carmen is survived by his children, Joseph (Phyllis) and Rose Ann Smith (Robert) and his sister, Santina Massimino; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

CAPASSO — Mary Julia “Jewel” Capasso (nee Bramble) age 84, of Bridgeport, passed peacefully with her family by her side, Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016.

Mary lived in Bridgeport most of her life and worked at Grants in Paulsboro and Beckett Deli in Logan Township. Jewel was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church ECW of Paulsboro. After retiring she was active in the Logan Twp. Senior Citizens. Mary loved baking and having her family and grandchildren around her.

She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth J. Capasso whom she was married to for over 45 years. She is survived by her sons Kenneth Jr. (Debra), Brian (Lisa), Michael (Caroline) and her daughter Helen Layton. She has nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, brother Joe Bramble and sister Charlotte Augustino.

WILGUS — Robert A. Wilgus, age 77 years, of Mickleton died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Wilgus was born and raised in Woodbury and lived in Mickleton for over 50 years. He retired as Supervisor with over 30 years of service at the DuPont Experimental Station in Delaware and then worked for 15 years as a paraprofessional at Kingsway Regional High School in Swedesboro.

Mr. Wilgus was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. John’s Church; Past President of the P.T.A. of St. John’s School, where he also helped run the annual carnival; past member of the Kingsway Board of Education; Past President of the Kingsway Athletic Booster Association, and a member of the East Greenwich Republican Committee. He enjoyed tending to his yard and garage, swimming and biking and refinishing furniture.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Frances Wilgus (nee Psonak) of Mickleton; his children, Lori Beckett and her fiance Jon Welikey of Mickleton, Sheri and Dennis Burlingame of Clarksboro, Robert and Geraldine Wilgus of Mt. Royal, David and Katie Wilgus of Manahawkin; his grandchildren, Kelsey, Kyle, Rachel, Jonathon, Madison, Cailon, Vanessa, Austin, Liam, Rowen, Summer and one on the way; his sister, Eileen and Hugh Stansbury of Woodbury and his goddaughter, Jill Stansbury. Mr. Wilgus was predeceased by his parents, Carlton and Elizabeth Wilgus, his brother, C. James Wilgus and his sister, Elizabeth Hendricks.

JOHNSON — Pastor Darrell Johnson, age 62, of Woolwich Township, departed this life on Jan. 4, 2017.

ROBINSON — Lewis Glenn Robinson, 59, of Swedesboro died on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017. Husband of Beth Ann (nee Millar) Robinson. Father of Katie Taylor, Payton Cammer, and Morgan Cammer. Grandfather of four. Brother of Judith (James) Haynicz and RoseMarie (Walter) Herman. Son-in-law of Joe and Barbara Millar, and brother-in-law of Joe Millar, II. Son of the late Lewis Charles and Marie Ann (nee Volpe) Robinson. Also survived by his cat, Nene.

D’ANTONIO — Mary Jane D’Antonio, 76, formerly of Woolwich Township, passed away Jan. 13 at Christiana Hospital, Newark DE. Mary Jane had lived in Woolwich Township with her late husband, Don Richard D’Antonio, for 35 years. Before retiring, she was a secretary at Mitsubishi Motors in Logan Township, and moved to Kennett Square, PA, two years ago.

She loved her family, was an avid reader and had a great sense of humor. She is survived by her son, Richard and his wife, Rebecca, her step-daughter, Kate Casella, grandchildren, Isabella, Gabe, Brandon and Roman. Also her brother, Phillip Shannon.

A memorial service was held at the Cheega Funeral Home, 1329 Kings Highway, Swedesboro. Contributions in her memory to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, 1200 Delsea Drive, Clayton, NJ 08312 would be appreciated.

PATANE — Salvatore “Sam” C. Patane, 78, of South Harrison Township passed away on Jan. 14, 2017. Salvatore was raised and lived most of his life in Mullica Hill. He was a farmer by trade who loved his work. He had such a passion for plants, trees, flowers and all types of horticulture and agriculture. His family and friends were everything to him. He enjoyed many activities such as fishing, hunting, NASCAR, and making wine and eating great food. He was the owner operator of Everfresh produce in Woolwich Township. He was a contributing member of the community and an advocate for all farmers (both locally and nationally). He was proud of his Italian – American heritage and was always blessed to have lived and worked in the place they call the “Garden State “.

He will truly be missed and loved by so many people. Beloved father of Alfina Schulde of Ferrell, Annette Scholl (Lou) of Bridgeton, Sally Corson (Greg) of Laurel Springs, Kathleen Patane of Blackwood, Marianne Patane of Glassboro, Lisa Martorano of Laurel Springs and Salvatore Patane (Dina Rae) of Cherry Hill. Loving companion of Kathleen Patane, and devoted grandfather of 14, great grandfather of four. Dear brother of Rose Fox of Clearwater, FL and Tina Feo (David) of New Port Richie, FL. Salvatore was predeceased by his parents Salvatore and Marianne (Leonardi) Patane, and granddaughter Carly Marie Scholl.

BAILEY — Ruby Mae Bailey (nee DeWitt), age 89 years, of Clarksboro died Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 in The Atrium, Woodbury. Mrs. Bailey was born in Baltimore, raised in Wenonah and lived in Clarksboro for over 50 years. She was a 50-year member of Zion Community Church in Clarksboro and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of East Greenwich Fire Company. Mrs. Bailey enjoyed cake decorating, sewing, crafts and ceramics. She especially enjoyed shopping at Boscov’s, because you can never have enough clothes or shoes.

She is survived by her children, Eileen and Bill Roberts, Bruce and Debbie Bailey, Jama and Paul Roselli, Tonya and George Matthews; her grandchildren, April (Jasmine), Heather (Scott), Shawn, Leah and Geno; her great grandchildren, Madison, Olivia and Spencer; her sister, Nancy Bryant; her brother in law, Harold and Joan Bailey and her sister in law, Florence DeWitt. Mrs. Bailey was predeceased by her husband, George Bailey.

GILMORE — William ‘Mike’ Gilmore, 72,  of Mickleton, died on Jan. 20, 2017. Beloved husband of Dorothy L. (nee Choate). Devoted father of Lisa Fones (Charles), Nancy Weatherholtz (Jon), Michael Ricci (Evelyn) and the late Nicholas Ricci. Dear brother of Robert Gilmore (Nancy). Also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gilmore graduated from Bartram High School and Lincoln Prep. He enjoyed a long career in retail management, retiring from F.W. Woolworth Company as a district manager. Mike enjoyed his dog and going to the shore, but above all he loved spending time with his family.
