August 2017 Issue Obituaries

HUNT — Robert Hurff Hunt went to be with his maker on June 5, age 93. Bob was a lifelong resident of Logan Twp. He worked with his father on one of his grandfather’s two farms in Center Square until 1943 when he moved to the 200-plus acre farm on Oldman Creek Road. He later bought that farm and at one time had over 100 acres of asparagus. Farming, family and hunting were his passions. He would fatten 60 steers each winter and also worked at Chrysler Assembly Plant in Delaware to help make ends meet.

Bob was eight years old when he became a member of the Center Square United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the class of 1941 Swedesboro High School. In 1954 he married his childhood sweetheart from Swedesboro, Betty Gold, daughter of Leo T. and Myrtle Gold. He started a life with Betty in January 1954 that has lasted 63 years.

In 1963 Bob sold the farm and took a job at Monsanto Chemical Co., retiring after 25 years of service, many years never missing a day. His love of land and hunting took him on many trips starting in 1938. He hunted with the Hunt Hunting Club in the Pine Barrens. Their camp then was WWI surplus tents. They built a permanent camp but it burnt down in 1963. He then joined the Antler Club of Woodbury, where he has been an honorary member for many years and the oldest member, bagging in the 2015 season, according to the old timers, the largest rack in club history.

Bob was a quiet, unopinionated man who was liked and respected by all who knew him well and his dry sense of humor. His hunting took him and lifelong friends to Nova Scotia, Maine and PA for many years and many hours of stories of deer hunting. Bob has also worked the last 20 years on his sons’ farm where he has a reputation for exterminating those pesky groundhogs.

Bob was born on 12-13-23 to Foster V. Hunt Sr. and Edith Dawson Hurff. He was predeceased by a sibling, Foster V. Hunt, Jr. of WV, one step daughter, Linda M. Learch, a daughter, Jayne L. Misero. EASTLACK — Paul G. Eastlack. Be prepared. Troop 13 of the Boy Scouts of America knew the leadership of Paul for 35 years, many boys making Eagle Scout under his tutelage and the Swedesboro Kiwanis club thrived for many years because of Paul’s efforts. But community service and service to nation weren’t new to him: a young Paul couldn’t wait to turn 18 to join the army. He and his friends all signed up and headed off to war. Paul spent most of his time in Korea and he picked up carpentry and mechanic skills while he was there. Coming home he worked for DuPont; every job from the dynamite mines to foreman of the experimental lab in Delaware. But for most of his life he maintained a second job as a mechanic, initially for Homan’s Garage and later for himself.

He spent a lifetime seeking knowledge. Even at age 90 he was doing research on the computer and staying current with the grandkids through e-mail. Paul was a man of few words: he was firm in his convictions but everyone knew Paul’s warmth. Even later in life he cared for many in his family; in his home if that’s what it took.

The Repaupo boy would spot a girl on a bicycle in Swedesboro. He knew Carole Stiles was the one. Their 66 year marriage was blessed by three children, Gail, Paul S. (Linda) and Priscilla DeMora (Dan) and 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Mildred Luongo.

Interment Lake Park Cemetery.

MANGANO — Maria Mangano, age 75, previously of Swedesboro. She is survived by her brothers, John (Anna), Alfio (Joann), and Anthony (Jane) and her sister, Angie Miller.
