Logan  Passes Township Line Road Resolution

BRIDGEPORT — The Logan Township Council adopted a series of resolutions during its meeting on Oct. 17, including one that awarded a contract for work on Township Line Road.

Council awarded the contract for the 2017 New Jersey Department of Transportation Township Line Road Roadway Improvement Project in the amount of $135,289.90 to Richard E. Pierson Construction Company. Logan began accepting bids for the work on Oct. 11. The Pierson bid was lower than two other competitors.

The  resolution was adopted contingent upon the review and approval of solicitor Brian Duffield and the NJDOT.

Council also approved measures that allowed the appropriation of $2,026.56 in revenue from the Body Armor Replacement Fund, and $3,500 from the Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund. Another adopted resolution appointed Natalie Lowe to the Township Beautification Committee to fill the unexpired term of Joseph Weber.

Council also approved an incentive payment to Margaret A. Smith for successfully completing Certified Municipal Finance Officer classes. Logan Township Mayor Frank Minor admitted it was a difficult effort. “We’re happy for you and congratulate you,” he told Smith.

In updates, Councilmember Bernadine Jackson reminded Council that a bus trip to Smithville would be taking place on Nov. 11, at a cost of $5 per person. Jackson also mentioned that a bus trip to New York City sponsored by the Youth Parks and Recreation Committee was set for Dec. 9, costing $10 for each person. She added that the community’s Tree Lighting Ceremony would be on Dec. 3.

Jackson gave credit to a number of people for a successful Logan Day on Oct. 7. Minor had kind words for the event, adding that Councilmember Arthur Smith had new ideas to add to the next Logan Day.

In his police report, Logan Township Chief of Police Robert Leash listed 1,336 calls to service for his department during the month of September. They also issued 180 motor vehicle summonses. Leash noted that Patrolman Ryan Ragone has also completed CMFO training.

Also, the Gloucester County Emergency Medical Service celebrated its 10 year anniversary in September. EMS first began in Logan Township on September 30, 2007.

Earlier in the meeting, Council issued a proclamation recognizing the First Baptist Church of Swedesboro for its 125th anniversary in October. “They’ve done a great job and wonderful work,” Minor commented. “They have been very accommodating to my family every time we’ve been there.”

Margie Andrews accepted the proclamation for the church. First Baptist Church is located at 700 Auburn Avenue in Swedesboro.
