Will the Grinch steal Christmas? You can stop him

From Kings Things

SWEDESBORO — This has been a very trying time. As of the time I’m writing this we at King’s Things are releasing in stages the Thanks Giving vouchers.

This is not a normal practice; usually vouchers are released all at one time. This has been a tradition for over a decade. Our Thanks Giving Program has grown over the years to a little less than $9,000.

The reasoning behind this delayed release and the trying times at King’s Things are the following;

The lack of food available at the Food Bank of South Jersey where we purchase food from the Food Bank at .22 cents per pound. This means King’s Things now needs to buy from local food store at market prices.

There is the continuing appeal from families for financial aid. Although our mission is “To Feed and Clothe the Needy” people need heat, electricity, water and sewer. Our financial aide has grown over 30 percent compared to last year.

This past Saturday 10 families came to the food pantry for aide as well four applications for financial help. They range from electricity where they have no heat with three kids in the home, to a mom and son that will become homeless on Monday.

Many charitable organizations are low on funds or have no funds at all. Our revenue has increased, however it has not kept pace with the requests.

We have identified the Grinch as poverty. This Grinch can be defeated. It can be defeated by the care of the people of Whoville.

If the people of Swedesboro could be a little more generous and stand Heart to Heart and Hand in Hand we could stop the Grinch.

Christmas doesn’t come from a store, it is not wrapped in ribbons, it comes from the “Heart”. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

As in past years, tags are placed in many locations. Each tags will have the age and gender of a child or senior in our area.  This year Fr. Grover has allowed us to use St.Clare of Assisi Hall at 140 Broad Street, Swedesboro.
