Adults:

Ceramic Plate Painting Class – Thursday, June 6 – 6:30 p.m. Bring out your artistic talents and enjoy painting a plate. The challenge: to paint something to go with our summer reading theme of space, “A Universe of Stories.”  Space is limited. Be sure to register at www.gcls.org.

FREE GED/HSE Preparation and Testing – Tuesdays, June 11, 18, & 25, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays, June 12, & 19, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The classes are for High School Equivalency preparation and testing. Classes will also be available at other GCLS library branch locations on different dates and times. Please check our online calendar for details.

Job Readiness Program:  

50 Top Interview Questions & Applications – Wednesday, June 12 – 4 – 5:30 p.m. Meet with an expert and learn the 50 most asked interview questions and receive guidance on the best way to answer. Also receive assistance filling out a job application.

Dress for Success & Interview Etiquette – Wednesday, June 19 – 4 – 5:30 p.m. Learn from an expert what to wear on a job interview. Also receive interview etiquette tips and suggestions.

Interview Practice – Wednesday, June 26 – 4-5:30 p.m. Practice interview questions with an expert in the field. A great way to be prepared for your next interview!

4th of July Craft – Wednesday, June 19 – 6:30 p.m. Make a glass candle holder for your 4th of July event! Space is limited, so be sure to register at www.gcls.org or call 856-467-0111.

Tween/Teens:

Teen Writers’ Club – Monday, June 10 – 7 p.m. Do you love writing? Join us on the second Mondays of each month. This time will be devoted to writing!  You can work on your own writing or pull ideas from our binder. Your writings may be published in our Teen Express Literary Magazine.

Volunteer Pizza Party – Thursday, June 13 – 6:30 p.m. Our Literacy Program is a success because of our hard-working, reliable, and responsible teens!  Be sure to RSVP!

Teen/Tween Gaming – Join us on Thursday, June 20 – 6:30-8 p.m. Play Xbox, Wii, DS’s, and traditional board and card games. Bring a friend and have a great time!

Teen Advisory Board – We welcome teens to join our Teen Advisory Board. Teen Board members will learn library skills, help plan teen activities, contribute to our quarterly teen newsletter and/or work with children by becoming a Literacy Buddy. Call 856-467-0111 for more information.  

Literacy Buddies – The literacy buddy program will be ending in June and will resume in the fall. We are always looking for teens interested in becoming a Literacy Buddy. The program entails working one-on-one with a child who needs help with reading, math, homework, or learning English, for one hour a week. Traditionally we have kept sessions to Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Most take place from 4:00 to 5:00 pm.  Call 856-467-0111 for more information or stop in and fill out a volunteer form.

Service Opportunity:  Make a Fleece Blanket for a child at C.H.O.P.  Tuesday, June 25 – 7 p.m. Learn how to make a fleece blanket and do something to help others. The blankets will be given to a child at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Please register at 856-467-0111 or www.gcls.org.

Bottle Rocket Launcher – Thursday, June 27 – 2 p.m. Make a cool rocket launcher from a soda bottle at the library. Parents will then have to drive you to Locke Avenue Park for the launching. Participants will also get a see a model rocket launched. Teens/ Tweens MUST BE accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Rain date will be Friday, June 28, at 2 p.m.

Tween Book Club – Saturday, June 29 – 11 a.m. This will be the last book club until fall. At this meeting, we will discuss How to Ditch Your Fairy by Justine Larbalestier. We will also choose our books for next year’s book club that will begin in September. Be sure to register at www.gcls.org

Children:

Registration is open for our 2019 Summer Reading Program, “A Universe of Stories.” Registration begins Saturday, June 22 and is for all ages. Summer Reading will end on Saturday, August 3.  All logs must be handed in at that time.  

FURever as Friends –   Monday, June 17 6:30-7:30 p.m. Visit with our therapy animals, read to them, share a picture book, brush their coat, and/or give them a treat. Some of our animals even do tricks! Don’t miss this month’s visits as there is only one session in July and none for the month of August. Registration is not required. Waivers to visit our animals are available at the front desk. All ages welcome!

Literacy Buddies – Does your child need help with homework, reading or learning English – call us at 856-467-0111 and we will try to match your child with a Teen Volunteer. This program will be finishing up mid-June and resume again in the fall. Literacy buddies traditionally takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, from 4-5 p.m. Let us know which day is best for you.

Two of a Kind Musical Extravaganza – Monday, June 24 – 7 p.m.Bethesda Chapel. Join us for this funny and entertaining duo – they’ll have your children clapping, dancing, singing, and laughing. There will be songs, stories, puppets, movement and fun! Help us start off our summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories,” with a bang!  Please be sure to register as space is limited. Bethesda Chapel is located across the street from the library (Bethesda United Methodist Church, 1433 Kings Highway – enter through the front door on Kings Highway).

Toddlers & Babies:

Tuesday Storytime (Laugh n’ Learn) – Storytime is a fun time! Listen to stories, sing songs, and make a craft! We meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. June’s storytime dates are June 11, 18, & 25. Storytime is best suited for ages 2-½ to 5. Registration is required.

Wednesday Storytime (Toddler Tales) – Join in the fun Wednesday morning for stories, dancing and crafts.  Wednesday storytime is at 10:30 a.m. Dates for June are June 12, 19, & 26 – Library meeting room. Storytime is best suited for ages 2-½ to 5. Registration required.

Baby Music Time – “Sing, Dance, and Play” – Bring your baby to a fun time of music – familiar songs, activities and fingerplays.  Baby Time is held on Thursdays, June 6 & 20 – 10:30 a.m. Space is limited, registration is required.

Toddler Music Time – “Sing, Dance, and Play” – Your toddler will enjoy a fun time marching, playing instruments, learning fingerplays, and singing familiar songs. This month’s dates are Thursdays, June 13 & 27. Registration is required as space is limited.
