FREE GED/HSE Preparation and Testing – Tuesdays, Dec. 10, 17, 24, and 31, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays, Dec. 11, and 18 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The classes are for High School Equivalency preparation and testing. Classes will also be available at other GCLS library branch locations on different dates and times. Please check our online calendar for details and any changes to times and dates. 

Job Readiness Program:  

50 Top Interview Questions & Applications – Wednesday, Dec. 11 – 1:30 to 3 p.m. Meet with an expert and learn the 50 most asked interview questions and receive guidance on the best way to answer. Also receive assistance filling out a job application. Be sure to check our online calendar for changes.

Dress for Success & Interview Etiquette – Wednesday, Dec. 18 – 1:30 to 3 p.m. Learn from an expert what to wear on a job interview. Also receive interview etiquette tips and suggestions. Be sure to check our online calendar for changes.

Yoga for Everyone – Fridays, Dec. 6 & 20 – 10:30 a.m. Learn basic yoga positions, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques. Please bring your own mat or towel and water to drink.Space is limited, be sure to register.  

Holiday Harp Concert – Thursday, Dec. 5 – 7 p.m. Enjoy beautiful holiday music performed by Richmond Carlton. Be sure to register as space is limited.

Tween/Teens:

Teen Writers’ Club – Monday, Dec. 9, 7 p.m. The Writer’s club will be on the second Mondays of each month. The time will be devoted to writing. You can work on your own writing or pull ideas from our binder. Your writings may be published in our Teen Express Literary Magazine.

Teen/Tween Book Club – Saturday, Dec. 14, 11 a.m. December’s selection will be Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. Be sure to register at www.gcls.org.

Teen/Tween Gaming – Join us on Thursday, Dec. 19 – 6:30-8 p.m. Play Xbox, Wii, DS’s, and traditional board and card games. Bring a friend and have a great time!

Anime Club – Monday, Dec. 23, 5 p.m. Anime meets on the fourth Mondays at 5 p.m. Feel free to come dressed in costume. You can also bring Pokemon cards or Yu Gi Oh cards to play, watch an Anime movie/show and/or draw Manga characters. Register at www.gcls.org.

Literacy Buddies – We are looking for teens interested in becoming a Literacy Buddy. Teens can work one-on-one with a child who needs help with reading, math, homework, or learning English. Commitment is one hour a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. Call 856-467-0111 for more information or stop in and fill out a volunteer form.

Teen Advisory Board – We welcome teens to join our Teen Advisory Board.  Teen Board members will learn library skills, help plan teen activities, and/or work with children by becoming a Literacy Buddy. Call 856-467-0111 for more information.  

Children:

Holiday Craft and Songs – Thursday, Dec. 12, 6:30 p.m. Ages 6-12. Ring in the holiday byjoining us for fun holiday songs, a craft, and a snack. Space is limited, so please register at www.gcls.org.

FURever as Friends –   Monday, Dec. 16, 6:30-8 p.m. Visit with our therapy animals, read to them, share a picture book, brush their coat, and/or give them a treat. On the 16th, our animals will be celebrating FURever as Friends Christmas! You can come in your attire! Some of our animals even do tricks! Registration is not required. Permission slips to visit our animals are available at the front desk.

Family Movie Night – Monday, Dec. 30, 6:30 p.m. Bring a friend and come enjoy Polar Express, rated G. Bring your own snack, but we will provide hot chocolate and marshmallows and popcorn. Call 856-467-0111 or go to www.gcls.org to register.

New Year’s Eve Celebration! – Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1:30 p.m. for ages 4-12.  Celebrate the beginning of a new year with dancing, crafts, snacks, games, and, of course, the infamous countdown!  Be sure to register at www.gcls.org or call 856-467-0111.

Literacy Buddies – Does your child need help with homework, reading or learning English – call us at 856-467-0111 and we will try to match your child with a Teen Volunteer. Literacy buddies traditionally takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, from 4-5 p.m. Let us know which day is best for you.

Toddlers & Babies:

Tuesday Storytime (Laugh n’ Learn) – Storytime is a fun time! Listen to stories, sing songs, and make a craft!  We meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. December’s storytime dates are Dec. 10, and 17. Storytime is best suited for ages 2-½ to 5. Registration is required.

Baby Music Time – “Sing, Dance, and Play” – Bring your baby to a fun time of music – familiar songs, activities and fingerplays. Baby Time is held on Thursdays, Dec. 5 & 19, 10:30 a.m. Space is limited, registration is required.

Toddler Music Time – “Sing, Dance, and Play” – Your toddler will enjoy a fun time marching, playing instruments, learning fingerplays, and singing familiar songs. This month’s date is Thursday, Dec. 12, 10:30 a.m.  Registration is required as space is limited.

All GCLS Libraries will close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 for Christmas Eve.

Little Learners-Dec. 11, 4 p.m. – A S.T.E.A.M. based program for little minds. We’ll be creating light up ornaments. Ages 4-6. Please register.

Crazy Cool Creations– Dec. 18, 4 p.m. – A S.T.E.A.M based program for growing minds. We’ll be creating light up holiday cards. Ages 6-12.

Holiday Concert– Dec. 23, 7 p.m. – Listen to holiday songs by students of Old Towne Music.

New! Maker Monday-Dec. 30, 6:30 p.m. – Explore Snap Circuits, build 3-D objects, learn how to code and more. Ages 6-12. We will meet in the Young Adult area.
