LANGE — Laurilee P. Lange, 72. Laurilee was born in Dallas, Texas raised in Shreveport, Louisiana and found her way to New Jersey.

She had many talents. She played the organ, piano, and sold stocks and bonds. Both sides of her brain were fully functional. For a time, she sold Wurlitzer organs in the Cherry Hill Mall. Customers were enticed in by her playing the organ. Her last job was as a receptionist at Brighton Gardens in Cherry Hill. And there she also entertained all the residents with her musical abilities.

And through the years she also gave music lessons in her home. Probably she arrived in New Jersey by way of Rider College, Westminster Choir College. There she earned a bachelor’s degree studying music and voice. Her education continued with opera studies in Germany. Her musical talent started when she sang and played the organ at her home church in Shreveport.

In addition to music Laurilee enjoyed travel. She joined the Friendship Force, a group that went to other countries staying with locals learning their custom.

She was introduced to a handsome man, Harry “Rusty” Lange. It wasn’t long before they married and she moved to his home on the Raccoon Creek where Laurilee was thrilled by being surrounded by nature. Along with Rusty she gained a full family: his son Dean and daughter-in-law Mary and grandchildren: Tristan Royal, Niki Royal, Moria Moore, Talmage Lange and Brieanna Lange.

Interment Lake Park Cemetery, Woolwich Township.

SCHLUMP — Janice Schlump. Through all of life’s ups and downs, family and friends knew they could count on Janice; she was a rock. But her best days found her driving down Kings Highway in her fire engine red Chrysler convertible, top down, wind in her hair.

For Janice holidays were full of all kinds of traditions: Easter meant making peanut butter and coconut eggs for her extended family; at least 10 for each person but sometimes there’d be rumors that some got more than others. And even though she made hundreds of the candy eggs, she found time to make the hard-boiled, decorated eggs as well. On Thanksgiving Janice always showed up with her famous cheesecake. Then came Christmas and she gathered the clan together for cookie baking. By the end of the night there’d be equal parts sweets and laughter and, again, there are controversies about who got what. With Covid Janice made runs to Moods Market fearful that they might run out of cider and donuts.

She frequented the diner in Paulsboro as did a handsome gentleman named Eddie Rieger. Her niece said they should get together; after they did, they were hardly ever apart: teenagers never fell so hard. In addition to her husband, Eddie, she is survived by her daughter, Amy Schlump and her brothers, Jay, Jordan, Jeffrey and the late Jack. In addition, Janice is survived by many nieces and nephews.

MENDICINO — Mary Jane Mendicino, age 71, of Logan Township (previously Darby PA), passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 16 with both of her daughters by her side.

Mary Jane was a devout Catholic and stayed active in the church as long as she could. When COPD began to limit her mobility, Facebook became her connection to the world. She joined many prayer groups and made numerous spiritual friends from around the world (she also kept up-to-date on pop culture, surprising many when she’d inform “them” of what Kim and Kanye were up to or how Beyonce looked in her last performance).

Mary Jane had an infectious laugh that included a distinct “howl” when she was trying to stop herself. She had many stories she loved to share and, despite living in New Jersey since 1987, kept her hometown accent (“pilla” (pillow), “winda” (window), “me-in” (million), and excessive use of the word “says” (I says….Then she says…”). She always lived within her means but gave what she could (and wished she could give more).

Mary Jane was loved by many and will truly be missed. She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Joseph) Booth and Angela Mendicino; grandchildren, Kristie-Anne Booth and Joseph Anthony Rodriguez; and her sisters, Nancy Lerro, Patricia Murphy and Lorraine Murphy.

MILES — Florence T. Miles, of Swedesboro, passed away on Oct. 16, 2020. She was 92.

Florence believed the words of her Lord that her sin separated her from a Holy God, and she trusted in the grace and mercy of Jesus to save her on judgement day. She lifted other people up in prayer. She prayed for the souls of her children. Her impact as a prayer warrior has reached to the third generation in her family.

Always encouraging and never interfering, she enhanced the marriages and family life of her children and many other people. Florence lived a life of service to others and to her church. She was thankful and appreciative for any kindness shown to her.

Despite deteriorating physical health, God gifted her with great faith and contentment in her final years. Her family is left with sadness but rejoicing that she is now in the presence of the Lord.

Predeceased by her parents Raymond and Florence (nee McCann), she is the beloved wife of the late Robert O. Miles; devoted mother of Suzanne Miller, Robert Miles (Kathy), Joseph Miles (Linda) and Martin Miles (Laurie); loving grandmother to Chad Miller, Nancy Grego (Tony), Kate Powell (Robert), Rebecca Hendricks (Mark), Robert Miles (Jane), Joseph Miles (Hope), Leslie Miles, Randy Miles (Erinn), Virginia Nicholas (John) and Michelle Galdames-Henry (Jon); cherished great grandmother to Anthony, Nicholas, Matthew, Andrew, Dean, Drew, Jack, Maura, June, Aubri, Talia and Florence. Florence is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jayne McCann, her brother-in-law, Richard Miles, many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Barbara was the original secretary – treasurer for the East Greenwich Little League. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her pet dog, Cali.

MONACO — Shirley Monaco, 85. The Monaco house was the center of Swedesboro teenage life for the better part of 25 years. Shirley was the mom of 8 kids but she was also the town’s mom. Her house was never quiet, packed to the roof with kids and friends – if not inside then outside shooting hoops. And friends beware. She’d give you a smack as fast as she would her own kids, but Shirley was much more likely to give you a hug and listen to your problems.

Shirley told it like it was and usually would stick out her tongue and toss in a little salty language for effect. Having so many kids helped out that famous day when the stars lined up perfectly for her (though she apparently messed up a couple of their ages). And with her good fortune she thought only of her kids, with the possible exception being building her dream house, a beautiful log cabin home.

Shirley loved the holidays. The Railroad Avenue home made the paper a couple of times for her Halloween decorations and the log cabin became Christmas Central, decorated from top to bottom. Most days found her behind her stove cookies, pies and the best pumpkin bread. And she loved her CB radio. She monitored the police and fire channels and knew all the Swedesboro happenings.

When she left the area from time to time it was usually for a road trip: Florida, Poconos, Virginia, Maryland. Earlier years found her working as a bus aid for Walt’s Bus Service.

She is survived by her children: Catherine Moran, Thomas Monaco, Shirley Ann Wissen, Salvatore Monaco Jr., Benjamin Monaco, John Monaco, Roseann Liles and Susan Rentas. And she found her real calling in life as a grandmother and great-grandmother, never happier than when she was on her yearly Disney trip with her 12 grandkids and 2 great grandkids. She is survived by her siblings, Beatrice Becker, Thomas Coulbourn Jr., and Diane Bosco.
