S/W Schools To Go All Virtual Until Jan. 19

SWEDESBORO – Students in the Swedesboro/Woolwich School District will start their 2021 school year in an all-remote learning mode for two weeks to allow a 14 day quarantine period for all staff and students following the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day holidays.

This aligns with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Policy Lab’s guidance, meant to mitigate the transmission of COVID virus cases to school settings from holiday gatherings.

Currently, SWSD operates under a hybrid learning system with Group A students attending in-school classes on certain days, and Group B students attend in-school other days. The group not in school is attending virtual classes.

According to school officials, their in-school learning has been successful in managing the current health pandemic since the start of the school year. As a result, the district has only had to transition to an all-remote status for a short period of time around Thanksgiving, from Nov. 20 to Dec. 7.

According to a statement sent out by the school, “Unfortunately, it became very clear to the district the real possibility of an extended closure if we did not have that two-week period. In true transparency, without it, there is no way we would have been able to remain open throughout December.”

Kingsway Regional High School and Middle School was on all-remote from Nov. 12 to Nov. 30. East Greenwich Elementary School was on all-remote from Nov. 18 to Dec. 2 and then from Dec. 14 to Jan. 19. Logan Elementary switched to all remote learning for Nov. 19 and 20.
