Youth Programs

Music Play Patrol Campfire Tales – Monday, Oct. 11, 11 a.m., patio performance; weather permitting.  All Ages welcomed. Please bring lawn chairs for additional seating.

In-Person Outdoor Storytime with Miss Heather – Mondays, Oct. 4 & 25; Fridays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 at 10:30 a.m. Ages 0 – 5. Advance registration required; limited to 8 families. On Friday, Oct. 29 we invite participants to dress up for our Halloween-themed Storytime. 

Movement Storytime – Wednesdays, Oct. 6, 13, 20 & 27, 10:30 a.m. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. Registration required; limited to 8 participants. 

FURever As Friends In-Person -Tuesdays, Oct. 5 & 19*, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Please call the library to sign up for a 15-minute reading time slot. *On Oct. 19 the animals will be dressed in costume; readers are welcome to attend in costume too.

Ceramic Pumpkin Painting – Thursday, Oct. 7, 3:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. ages 8 – 12.  Registration required; limited to 8 per session.

Make & Take Halloween Slime – Tuesday, Oct. 26, 6, 6:30, 7 & 7:30 p.m. Ages 5 -12. Registration required; limed to 8 per session.

Writer’s Roundtable – Tuesdays, Oct. 5 & 19 – 6:30-8:30 – The Writers Roundtable is a forum for writers of all levels and genres to meet and get feedback on their work and give feedback to others. The only expectation is having a willingness to share your work, not always easy, and taking the time to read and discuss the work of the others in the group. Please register for this program. Meetings are held at the Mullica Hill Library, meeting room A&B.

History Book Club – Monday, Oct. 11 – 7 p.m. – Join us for our monthly history book club. This month the discussion will be on The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of the Great American Dust Bowl by Timothy Egan.

Page Turner’s Adult Book Club – Tuesday, Oct. 26 – 7 p.m.  Join us for our monthly book club. This month’s selection will be Caste:  The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. Due to social distancing requirements, space is limited. Be sure to register at www.gcls.org

ADULT VIRTUAL PROGRAMS:

Discovery of a Masterpiece – Thursday, Oct. 21 – 6:30 p.m. Join Mallory Mortillarowho will share her journey to authenticate a marble bust of Napoleon sculpted by Auguste Rodin that had been sitting in a New Jersey town hall for over 80 years. She will also share the story of Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge who gifted the artwork. This lecture is fully illustrated with engaging present day and historical photographs. Readers Roundtable 

Weekly on Thursdays, Oct. 7, 14, 21, & 28 – 4 p.m.

Grab & Go Bags for adults once-a-month. Stop in to pick up a “Grab and Go Bag” – one per adult. Enjoy simple crafts you can do at home. Supplies are included. First come, first serve, while supplies last. We would love for you to snap a photo of your finished crafts and share with us on our Instagram page.

IN-PERSON PROGRAMS

October’s Challenges – Ages 4-12 – Oct. 1 – 30 – Enjoy a scavenger hunt in the park and a hunt for a pumpkin indoors at the library. Hand in your scavenger hunt paper and get a piece of candy. Find the hidden pumpkin when you stop in for a visit.

Storytime:

Tuesdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19, & 26 – One class at 10:30 a.m. and one class at 11:15 a.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 6, 13, 20, & 27 – One at 10:30 a.m. and one class at 11:15 a.m. 

Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the same program so please only choose one of the days to come.

Special Halloween Storytime – Tuesday & Wednesday – Oct. 26 & 27 – all classes. Join us for an indoor storytime. Your children can wear their Halloween costumes, and we’ll parade around the library.  A special take-home snack & craft will be provided. Registration is very limited. Each adult and child must be registered.

All storytime crafts will be take-home crafts. Masks are highly recommended. Space is limited and social distancing is still in effect. Each adult and child must be registered.  See our online calendar for dates, times, locations, and changes. 

In-Person Reading with FURever as Friends – Sign up to read to one of our adorable therapy animals. Each child will be given a 10 to 15 minute time slot. Confirm the dates on our virtual calendar and call the library you want to visit to schedule an appointment.

Logan Library – TuesdaysOct. 5 & 19 – 6:30-7:30 – (the 19th is a special Howl-a-Ween Costume party)

Swedesboro Library – Thursdays Oct. 7 & 21- 6:30-7:30 – (the 21st is a special Howl-a-Ween Celebration.)  Your children can come in costumes, if desired. We are now holding                                   FURever as Friends in our meeting room.

Mullica Hill Library – ThursdaysOct. 14 & 28 – 6:30-7:30

Literacy Buddies – Are you interested in having homework or reading help for your child?  Is your teen interested in helping a child?  We provide weekly one-on-one help. Call 856-467-0111 if interested.  

CHILDREN’S TAKE HOME ACTIVITIES 

Take Home:  Read and Do Bags. Patrons can check out one bag per child at the Swedesboro Library. Each bag will contain 3 library books, a coloring page, and a simple craft you can do with your child at home. Different themes will be available while supplies last. Please be sure to bring your bag to the circulation desk for checkout.

Grab and Go Bags for children – Stop in to pick up a “Grab and Go Bag” – one per child. Enjoy simple crafts you can do at home. There will be a new craft each week. Supplies are included.  First come, first serve, while supplies last.

Storytime Kits – Once a month, pick up a storytime kit. Kits will include one free book, activities, and a craft.  One per family while supplies last.

TEENS/TWEENS

Teen Writers’ Club – Monday, Oct.11 – 7 p.m. If you love writing, need new ideas, like sharing ideas/stories/poems, and/or learning new writing techniques and types of writing – this club is for you.  We also have started a literary magazine that your works can be included in. Teen/Tween Book Club – Saturday, Oct. 2 – 12:30 p.m. Join us for our monthly book club. This month we will be discussing Booked by Kwame Alexander. Selections were chosen by the past year’s teens.  Go to www.gcls.org to register. Due to the need for social distancing, space will be limited.
