Christmas cheer coming to Swedesboro

SWEDESBORO – Council member Joanna Gahrs announced at the Nov. 15 Swedesboro virtual council meeting that there will be several Christmas activities in the month of December.

Gahrs stated that at dusk on Dec. 4 there will be fireworks at Locke Ave Park as well as two upcoming Christmas concerts. On Dec. 10, Rowan music students will perform a free concert at Trinity Church and then on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. there will be another concert at St. Clare of Assisi on Broad Street.

In addition, Fire Chief David Valichka stated that Santa Claus will be riding a fire truck around town in the upcoming weeks.

Councilmember Diane Hale declared the Nov. 6 shredding event a success, with the community bringing over 8,900 pounds of paper to the event.

Councilmember Sam Casella wanted to remind residents to shop, if at all possible, locally this month and support the businesses in town, even if it is just to get some gift cards for the holidays.

Casella also went on to state that Tranquility Trails may be certified to become a Garden for Wildlife. If approved, this will help with receiving future grant money, as well as protecting wildlife and flowers.

In other news, Keith Lamb from Public Works, stated that new speed signs will be going up on Auburn Road and the Council unanimously approved the hiring of Mark Godfrey as the new tax collector.
