As the new year rolls around, here at Kingsway it means it’s time for one of the year’s biggest events, Kingsway Live!
This is a pageant-like competition where 12 senior boys compete for the title of King of Kingsway. From video-making, lip sync battles, interviews, struts, and dances, these boys will be trying to win the audience’s hearts and some awards while they’re at it.
With rehearsals starting soon, this program requires dedication and immense passion, both of which these seniors have exuded. This event could not be possible without all its working parts.
Whether it be the hosts, stage managers, committee members, or choreographers, this student council led event is carefully curated by students, made with students, and to be seen by all.
When talking to Kingsway Live committee leader and choreographer, Olivia “Liv” Neuman, she revealed that Kingsway Live was her favorite event here at Kingsway. She enjoys seeing how the students create and strengthen bonds with their peers while enjoying their time doing it. She loves that this event incorporates students AND their families, and is a great way to give back to the community.
Sofia Richardson, show choreographer, executive board member and dancer herself, is excited to truly put her heart into the production as one of the last events before her graduation. Her favorite parts of the show are the escort dances. This is where each senior picks an “escort” and performs a small dance with them. She also enjoys the mother-son number, where each boy will find his mother in the audience and do the final dance with them.
Teddy Oberg reminisces about when he first attended the show in 2022 to watch his older sister host. He was amazed by everything, especially the tremendous dedication. Since then, Teddy had dreamed about being in it, and this year, that dream came true.
Being an executive board member, it truly has been a full circle moment for him, now as a part of the show. Teddy looks forward to pushing himself out of his comfort zone and perhaps even discovering his superior dancing abilities. Teddy wants something upbeat and catchy, and hopes to find a charity that helps others.
This event is truly the heart of Kingsway. While uniting the school and entertaining an audience, this event is where Kingsway can reconnect with the community. It is a charity event at its core, and all proceeds are donated to a good cause.
Here are the 12 seniors selected (after a series of voting and competitive interviews) — Derrick Cheng, Teddy Oberg, Kai Tolley, Hishaam Jackson, Colin McCourt, Zachary Grubb, Luca Kuzmick, Dominic Hibbs, Kyle Nordone, Keegan Borkowski, Kevin Kirkpatrick, and Dylan Rickards.
Kings of Kingsway will be performing on March 21 at 6:30 p.m. See them rock it and give back to the community while they’re at it.
