HAMMONTON — The SJEBFC 2012 National Academy League (NAL) soccer team claimed the national championship title last month, delivering a dominant performance at the NAL Soccer Tournament held June 14 to 17 at the Tuckahoe Turf Farm.
The South Jersey squad, including Logan Township’s Sophia Morris, faced elite competition from across the country, squaring off against teams from Boston, New York, and Cincinnati. In the championship match on Monday, June 17, SJEBFC defeated AC Connecticut with a commanding 2-0 victory, securing the national crown.
The championship roster featured a talented and well-balanced lineup, guided by Head Coach Veronica Rhea. Goalkeepers Ella Lyko and Alandra Kouvatas held strong between the posts throughout the tournament, delivering key saves in high-pressure moments.
Anchoring the defense were Lila D’Amico, Audriana Graham, Gabby Kesic, Madison Quigley, and Layla Shepherd, whose cohesive back line helped deliver a shutout in the title game.
In the midfield, Camryn D’Angelo, Ava Dougherty, Bella Lucas, Sophia Morris, and Olivia Rodriguez controlled the tempo and dictated play across all matches.
Up front, the attacking threat was led by forwards Emma Davidson, Kendall Dunn, Emalee Friedhoff, Laura Hennessy, Harper Rennie, and Emily Sigmund, who consistently pressured opposing defenses and found the back of the net at critical moments.
