WOOLWICH TWP. — Serious damage was done to the turf on playing fields at the High Hill Park in Woolwich Township after the snowstorm in December. It is estimated the repairs will cost about $10,000.
According to a social media post from Woolwich Township Mayor Natalie Matthias, “Woolwich Township is deeply disappointed to share that earlier this week, several playing fields at High Hill Park sustained significant damage when a vehicle was driven across the turf, leaving deep ruts and tire tracks in the snow-covered grass. While most of our community had been out enjoying the snow in true holiday spirit, it seems a Grinch took a joyride across our fields.”
“Our Public Works team is carefully assessing the condition of the fields and planning repairs as soon as weather and ground conditions allow, so that these spaces can be safely enjoyed again. Incidents like this impact our entire community by diverting resources from other park improvements and limiting access for all who use the park as intended.”
“We know that High Hill Park is a popular sledding destination, and we encourage everyone to continue enjoying the snow while helping to protect the fields by parking only in the designated parking lot, not sitting on the fences, and keeping vehicles off the grass.”
Matthias stated that the investigation is still underway to find the culprits of the damage and asks that anyone with information should contact Woolwich Township Police.
“Especially during the holiday season, our parks should reflect the pride and care our residents have for Woolwich, and we are grateful to the many community members who help watch over these shared spaces. Thank you to all who treat our parks with respect and help us keep them safe, welcoming, and well maintained for all,” wrote Matthias.
