Logan Police Make Drug Arrest After Month-Long Investigation

logan twpBRIDGEPORT– –At the Logan Township Council meeting on Sept. 20, Police Chief Robert Leash reported that the Logan Police had used a search warrant to seize about $13,000 worth of various drug paraphernalia and cash from a local residence. The warrant was executed on Aug. 18 after a month-long investigation.

Among items taken were 190 grams of suspected marijuana, digital scales, a box of cigarillos, and a glass-smoking pipe that is used to smoke marijuana. Officers also seized $9,910 in cash.

Leash listed 1,526 calls to service for the Logan Police Department for the month of August in his Police report. The local forces also made 43 arrests and issued 268 traffic summonses during the month.

The Logan Police held their annual “National Night Out” at Township Line Park, and Deputy Mayor Chris Morris called the event “one of the best Night Outs ever, with all due respect to your predecessor (former Logan Police Chief James Schmidt).”

Leash noted that he and other members of the force had taken classes in August to improve their abilities. Also, when Council asked about the progress of the Logan Police Department’s bike patrol, Leash described it as “adequate.”

Elsewhere, Council approved an ordinance that amended the “Vehicles and Traffic” chapter of Logan Township’s code. “This will put into place prohibiting of parking in front of mailboxes in our township,” explained Mayor Frank Minor. The ordinance was adopted on its second reading after a public hearing.

In resolutions, Council approved the final payment of $18,301.51 to Levy Construction Company, Inc. for Township Line Park recreational improvements. A second resolution saw Council approve and adopt revised job descriptions for municipal employees.

Council also commended its Public Works Department and Superintendent Mike Riley for their work in repaving a portion of Center Square Road near Beckett Road.
