April 1, 2018 through May 31, 2018

April 1 at 15:06: 292 Iannelli Rd. for a fire alarm. Engine 1911 responded, while enroute, GC Communications advised alarm set off by steam from the shower. Engine 1911 arrived and confirmed with the homeowner that the alarm was unintentional. 1911 was in service for 20 minutes.

April 6 at 23:47: Cedar Rd. at Union Rd. for a motor vehicle crash. Initial report by the 9-1-1- caller was that a vehicle had struck a utility pole, flipped over and was on fire with people trapped inside. EGPD arrived on location and advised the vehicle was on fire, but no one was trapped inside. Rescue 1918 arrived and went to work extinguishing the fire. It took about 2 minutes to extinguish the fire. Rescue 1918 stood by for the tow company to remove the vehicle. The station was in service for 59 minutes. Also dispatched was Gibbstown FD.

April 8 at 09:09: Delsea High School, Franklin Twp. for a Training Assignment. Engine 1911 and Tender 1914 participated in a county wide training assignment. This drill was a combination of the County’s Tender Task Force and the Large Diameter Hose (LDH) Task Force. The drill was intended to simulate a large building fire where water sources are distant from the scene. The LDH team uses long lays of 5” hose, upwards of 100+ feet per engine, with the engine pump acting as a relay to keep the water moving and up to the pressure needed. The Tender Task Force finds a fill station, a fire hydrant or lake water source, to shuttle water to the scene, where they dump the water in special pools that the engines on scene can draft from. This type drill is usually held twice per year. The apparatus was in service for 3 hours and 48 minutes.

April 9 at 14:32: Gloucester County Complex, 1200 N. Delsea Dr., Clayton for a Cover Assignment. Due to a large building fire at the Aleris plant in Clayton, Gloucester County Communications dispatched GC Cover Task Force 5 which consists of units from East Greenwich, Westville, Woodbury, National Park, and Deptford. This task force covered multiple stations that were involved in fire operations, in case of additional fire calls. Tender 1914 was in service for 1 hour and 22 minutes.

April 14 at 17:07: 292 N. Wolfert Station Rd. for a brush fire. 9-1-1 caller advised of a large brush in the field behind their house. Brush 1915 arrived and due to the size of the fire, requested Woolwich FD plus two additional brush trucks. This brought brush units from Harrison and Gibbstown. The station was in service for 2 hours and 5 minutes.

April 15 at 13:47: 8 Millwood Dr. for a fire alarm. While enroute Chief Gould (1901) was advised the alarm company confirmed a proper pass code from the homeowner for a false alarm. 1901 arrived and confirmed the alarm was accidental by homeowner and recalled the assignment. The station was in service for 9 minutes.

April 22 at 17:15: 76 W. Tomlin Station Rd. for a brush fire. The caller was advising of a grass fire in the rear of a neighbor’s house. Brush 1915 arrived and was able to quickly knock the fire down. They continued to clean up hot spots with help from Engine 1911. Tender 1914 provided additional water due to lack of hydrants. The station was in service for 1 hour and 37 minutes.

May 3 at 13:16: Garrison Lake, Elk Twp. for a structure fire. Tender 1914 and Engine 1911 were dispatched into Elk Twp. as part of the Gloucester County Tender Task Force for a structure fire. A large farm building was fully involved in a no hydrant area. Tender 1914 and Engine 1911 assisted in shuttling water from Garrison Lake to the fire scene. Units were in service for 50 minutes.

May 8 at 15:54: 290 Kings Hwy. for a fire alarm. Upon arrival crews found overcooked popcorn in the microwave. Crews assisted in venting the smoke. The station was in service for 18 minutes.

May 12 at 20:18: 263 Jennings Way for a dwelling fire. The caller reported lightning struck the house and the basement was filling with smoke. Chief Gould (1901) arrived and found a working fire in the basement. Crews went into service with three hose lines, two to the interior and one to the exterior. Crews extinguished the fire, but were still finding smoke and heat in the walls. The exterior crew began pulling the vinyl siding and exterior plywood. Fire had gotten into the walls and crews were able to quickly get it under control. Damage to the residence was held to one exterior wall side and about half of the basement. The Red Cross was assisting the family and the fire was under investigation by the GC Fire Marshall’s office. Also dispatched were Harrison, Woolwich, Gibbstown, Logan, Woodbury Heights, West Deptford, Deptford and GC EMS. Crews were in service for four hours and five minutes.

May 18 at 10:17: 56 Democrat Rd. for a CO alarm. Dep. Chief Hall (1902) arrived and found the resident set off the alarm while soldering. Crews vented and assisted the resident resetting the alarm. The station was in service for 24 minutes.

May 25 at 17:14: E. Wolfert Station Rd. at Union Rd. for a motor vehicle crash. Chief Gould (1901) arrived and found no entrapment. He requested Advanced Life Support (ALS) due to the driver having an asthma attack. The patient was turned over to GC EMS. The station was in service for 23 minutes.

May 25 at 18:06: 305 E. Meadowview Ct. for a fire alarm. Chief Gould (1901) and Engine 1911 arrived and found smoke from the BBQ grill set off the fire alarm. The station was in service for 17 minutes.

May 26 at 13:51: 114 Sunset Dr. for a dwelling fire. Dep. Chief Hall (1902) arrived and reported light smoke coming from the house. Rescue 1918 arrived and went into service with a 1-3/4 inch hose line. Heavy smoke inside the house made it difficult to find the seat of the fire. The fire was located in the kitchen area. A second hose line was deployed to conduct a secondary search. That crew found no fire extension beyond the kitchen. Crews extinguished the fire, cleaned up and stood by during the fire investigation. The fire was being investigated by the GC Fire Marshall’s Office, the GC Prosecutor’s Office and EGPD. Also dispatched were Harrison, Woolwich, Gibbstown, Logan, Woodbury Heights, West Deptford and GC EMS. Crews were in service for 3 hours and 25 minutes.
