MULLICA HILL — It is amazing how quickly the year goes. No sooner are the kids out of school and they are back again. As the school year begins and the leaves change, you can almost smell the wood smoke and hear the canons boom.
It is time again for Fall Open House and Civil War living history weekend Oct. 13 and 14 in Mullica Hill. This is the 48th year. The event starts 10 a.m. both days and runs till 9 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Camp life, battles, medical and weapons displays, living history and more will be on display. And it’s all free to the public.
Children can speak with soldiers who relive the experiences of the darkest time in our nation’s history. Many assume the ancestor who fought in the war. General John Houke says, “We must preserve the past as to never to repeat it again.”
The family friendly event includes food trucks, music, crafts and games for the kids. There is a free lantern tour of the camps Saturday night only starting at the Union camp located behind Sisters at 39 S. Main Street. The tour continues to the Confederate camp on Church Street and ends with the evening firing of the canons
New shops have opened along Main Street including Flossy’s and Cherry On Top. Stop in to say hello. Turning 18 this year is Farm House Design. A harvest party will be held to celebrate.
There will be special sales, live music and treats plus a tasting of new line from Beekman 1802 Jams and Vinegar.
