Better Together MLK Day Presentation, Jan. 21

SWEDESBORO – A Better Together, Celebrating Unity, Diversity and Inclusion MLK Day Celebration will be held on Jan. 21 at noon at the Margaret Clifford School on Auburn Avenue in Swedesboro.

This free program will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with special guest performers, award winning Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy Gospel Choir and Jazz Band, local youth performers, and a minority owned vendor fair.

A Volunteer Community Service Award will be given out and the winners of the art and essay contests will be named. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

ART & ESSAY CONTEST

The art contest is open to Gloucester and Salem County kindergarten students through grade 12. Entry pictures should capture the essence of Dr. King’s dream of unity amongst all people. A grand prize will be awarded for four different grade divisions.

The art entries must be submitted by Jan. 9. Swedesboro-Woolwich students can submit their artwork to their teachers. Other entries should be mailed to MLK Celebration Committee, 7 Bradford Lane, Swedesboro, NJ 08085.

The Essay Contest is open to Gloucester and Salem County students in grades 3 through 12. The theme is: What would it take to make Dr. King’s dream of unity amongst all people a reality? What does ‘we are better together look like’?

Essay entries should be emailed as a Word or pdf attachment to swedesboromlkday@gmail.com by Jan. 9 at 3 p.m. Prizes will be award in the Middle School and High School divisions.

The essay submissions can also be mailed to MLK Celebration Committee, 7 Bradford Lane, Swedesboro, NJ 08085.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

If you know of a person or organization that has made an impactful contribution to the community, submit their name for a Community Service Award. Submit information to swedesboromlkday@gmail.com and include the name of the nominee, contact information and the reason for the nomination.

This free community event will also feature other musical and oratorical performances, a minority owned vendor fair, and more.

The event is sponsored by the Historical & Education Lodge-Hall Preserver, Inc. (HELP), Holcomb Bus Company, and local churches and businesses.
