Explosion and fire kills 2 in East Greenwich

AN EXPLOSION AND FIRE KILLED TWO PEOPLE inside their Weatherby Avenue home in Clarksboro on Oct. 27. According to East Greenwich Police, at approximately 5:56 p.m., they were dispatched to Weatherby Avenue for a reported audible “explosion”. While in response, officers were told the home was fully engulfed in flames, with unconfirmed information if the homeowners were inside. The intensity of the fire prohibited officers and emergency responders from approaching or making entry into the home. The East Greenwich Fire Department, along with multiple responding mutual aid fire departments were able to eventually extinguish the fire, allowing for investigators and emergency personnel to begin the removal of debris and the search of the residence. “Tragically, hours after the flames were extinguished, investigators did locate two deceased persons inside the home, believed to be that of the 82-year old male and 82-year old female residents of the home,” stated police. Out of respect for the family, the names were not released at the time of this printing. The causes of death and the cause of the fire are all currently under active investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s Office, in conjunction with the Gloucester County Prosecutors Office.
