Members of the East Greenwich Fire Company as well as local officials gathered at the home of Ida DeSimone in East Greenwich to wish her a Happy 100th Birthday on Aug. 3.
Born in Swedesboro in 1918, Ida married Joseph DeSimone in 1937 and moved to East Greenwich where they bought their farm on Jessup Mill Road in 1937 where she still resides. Mrs. DeSimone is blessed with five children, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 and a half great great grandchildren.
Ida and husband Joe were very active in their church and donated $600 to purchase the land for Incarnation Church on Shadow Place in Mantua, New Jersey. Spent countless hours cooking for the church bazaar. Hidden Acres ball field/football fields were once part of the DeSimone farm.
Mrs. DeSimone worked countless hours on the farm with her husband and family and continued to work the farm with her sons after her husband’s passing. After retirement, she worked as a volunteer for the Gloucester County Chapter of the American Red Cross for over 20 years.
