SWEDESBORO — It became easier to clean out your closets in Swedesboro as the town introduced a new program in June for residents to use when they have clothing and household items they want to donate.

According to Swedesboro Mayor Tom Fromm, bringing in the service Curb My Clutter is part of the town’s dedication to improving lives of residents while minimizing environmental impact in the community. Residents text the word “pickup” to 856-556-3453. The service will respond with a request for the residents’ address and an agent will set up a date to pick up.

Disposal of prescription drugs will be easier for Swedesboro residents as the town introduces carbon-based Deterra packets that dissolve and deactivate prescription drugs safely and conveniently at home. The Borough Council encourages residents to contact the municipal building if interested in a drug disposal bag.

Traffic concerns at the intersection of Glenn Echo and Kings Highway were brought up at the Swedesboro municipal meeting held on June 18. The tractor trailers take longer to clear the intersection than cars which is causing delays.

Kings Highway is part of the New Jersey Access Network for tractor trailers which means the road is one of the main routes for truckers. The town will be working with the police and county engineer to determine what can be done to manage traffic at this location better.

In parks and recreation news the Glen Echo Park is moving forward with the parks site planning. The original building is gone, and the park is cleaned up. Future plans include a paved parking lot, pavilion and a walking trail that will lead to a new kayak dock.

The public works department is operating at full staff. The department will be working on various projects such a new curbing on Chestnut Street, replacing a 70 foot drain line, and fixing a sinkhole on Second street.

The Board of Health is planning a yoga presentation for senior citizens. This presentation will include basic yoga moves from seated and standing positions. Dates and times will are to be announced.

The Swedesboro Council congratulated Kingsway High School graduate Jamie Gialloreto after she was crowned Miss New Jersey on June 17. She will be representing the state of New Jersey in the 2019 Miss America competition in Atlantic City.
