Letter To The Editor

Dear Editor,

My name is Bhavana Chamarthi. I am a rising sophomore (14 years old) at Kingsway Regional High School. I’m from Swedesboro, New Jersey.

For the last two weeks, I attended a camp called “Kode with Klossy”. It’s a free, selective, all-girls camp founded by Karlie Kloss, an American model/entrepreneur. During the 2-week camp, I learned the programming languages: Ruby, HTML, and CSS. With our knowledge of those languages, a group of two other girls and I coded and deployed our own website. Our web application addresses the topics of mental health and self-love.

(Our website can be accessed through this link: )

I wanted to bring this to your attention because I learned so much at camp; the community at Kode with Klossy is so supportive of young women in tech. With your platform, I think it’s imperative that the word is spread about this camp – especially in our community.

Computer science is essentially the future of our world. This is why we need an equal representation of everybody in this field. Currently, my school offers a limited amount of computer science courses, but camps like Kode with Klossy help fill this gap. Again, I would like to stress that this is a great opportunity for other girls (ages 13-18) who are interested in computer science/coding.

Thank You,

Bhavana Chamarthi
