Logan Requests Additional Bus Shelters From New Jersey Transit

logan twpBRIDGEPORT– During the Logan Township Council meeting on Dec. 20, Councilmember Stephen Dougherty reported that he had sent a letter to New Jersey Transit requesting more bus shelters for the community.

Dougherty had been instrumental in getting NJ Transit to install two bus shelters at the intersection of Beckett Road and Center Square Road in 2015 for NJ Transit’s 402 Pennsville-Camden-Philadelphia route. He acknowledged that the shelters had served the residents well.

But Dougherty noted in his letter that Logan Township has over 10,000 employees working in its industrial complex on any given work day, and is continuing to grow. He recently announced that coming construction of a one million square foot warehouse would create over 500 to 600 permanent and temporary jobs.

“A lot of workers take public transit. We just want to help them stay out of the cold,” explained the Councilmember, “especially around this time of year.”

Dougherty mentioned that he had spoken with Logan Mayor Frank Minor and the other Councilmembers at the township’s Nov. 1 work session, and the township would accept responsibility for the maintenance of any bus shelters approved in the future.

Dougherty said his request was currently under review by NJ Transit. With his submission he included a list of 18 route stops where Logan Township would request installation of the shelters.

Elsewhere, in resolutions, Council approved payment of $27,469.40 to Levy Construction Company for the township’s municipal complex storage building. They also authorized budget appropriation transfers for the community.

In his police report, Logan Township Chief Robert Leash listed 1,351 calls for service for the local force during the month of November, along with 34 arrests, 24 accidents, 193 motor vehicle summonses and three DWIs. Leash reported that all officers had completed semi-annual firearms, Attorney General Guideline, and Prosecutors Office mandated training during November.

Ptl. Rob Taylor attended a week long seminar on Crime Prevention Techniques and a week of Methods of Instruction training during the month, while Ptlm. Michael Mangiaracina attended a two day training session on crash investigations.

Also, Ptlm. Joseph Tropea and Nicholas Barber attended a two-day training session to become certified Taser instructors.
