Logan to Advertise for Bids for Athletic Field Lights

logan twpBRIDGEPORT — At their meeting on May 16, the Logan Township Council adopted a resolution authorizing engineer Annina Hogan to advertise for bids for the upcoming lighting project at the town’s recreational fields.

Deputy Mayor Chris Morris announced at the April 18 meeting that Logan’s athletic fields at Township Line Park would be getting state-of-the art LED lighting.

A pleased Morris thanked the Council for their work and consideration regarding the matter. He mentioned that Mayor Frank Minor and the other Councilmembers supported Logan’s athletic programs, and the lights would make the children safer. “It’s really important that our kids have a well-lit field,” observed the deputy mayor.

In another resolution, Council authorized a shared services agreement with Gloucester County to provide family movie entertainment. The first movie night is set for June 14.

Councilmember Bernadine Jackson noted that the community was preparing for Logan Day. Jackson requested e-mails or texts from townspeople who wanted to help with this year’s event.

For Public Works, Superintendent Mike Riley reported that his department had been planting flowers at township properties, and turning on local irrigation systems. Riley noted that another shredding event was scheduled for Logan in November.

Elsewhere, Wedgwood Pharmacy was granted a temporary use permit for the use of tents for the Grand Opening of their expanded marketing area. In his police report, Logan Township Chief Robert Leash listed 1,517 calls to service answered by his force in April, and 226 summonses were issued, including one DWI.

Leash reported that the Logan Township Police Department was awarded a $1,000 grant for a drug collection unit as part of CVS Health’s Medication Disposal for Safer Communities Program. The new disposal unit will be located in the lobby of police headquarters, and offers a safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medication, including controlled substances.

Leash commented on a police department Facebook post, “Safely disposing of unused medication is critical to preventing prescription drug abuse and keeping pharmaceuticals out of our waterways.”

Also, Leash mentioned that the Logan Township Police Department has added Patrol Officer Laura Boucher to their force. Boucher has been an officer with the Delaware River Port Authority Police for the past two years.
