Logan Township Council Introduces Opportunities to Help Residents

BRIDGEPORT — At their meeting on Nov. 21 Logan Township Mayor Frank Minor announced that the township would be launching the Logan Township Employment Portal, designed specifically to connect qualified Logan residents with township businesses.

Minor noted that Council had been working closely with Logan Township businesses to customize the job portal to meet the community’s needs. It is free for those seeking employment and allows them to search and filter open job positions. Job seekers can create their own custom profile that would emphasize their strengths to employers.

Minor points out that according to a recent study, 10,000 jobs exist in Logan Township but only about 500 of them are being filled by Logan residents. To learn when the job portal goes live, residents are advised to fill out a contact form on the Logan Township website (www.logan-twp.org/jobs ).

Minor also had news for Logan residents in need of food. He announced that Council was partnering with Logan Township businesses to put together care packages for community residents in need of food assistance.

Participating businesses will be donating their excess food products, and the care packages will be distributed monthly on a “first-come, first served” basis. Food packages will be distributed at the Logan Municipal Building on 125 Main Street in Bridgeport. Proof of residence in Logan Township will be required to receive a care package.

Minor pointed out that people could also contact his assistant, Jared Rollins, through email at jrollins@logan-twp.org or by phone at 856-467-3424, ext. 3003 with questions about either program.

Meanwhile, Council passed a series of resolutions during the meeting. One appointed Mark Landwher as Deputy Municipal Fire Chief for Logan Township, while another named Pastor Damon Dukes as Police Chaplain for the community.

Council also authorized a payment to Landberg Construction LLC for the town’s 2017 Road Program. Then they approved $2,500 in items of revenue and appropriation for the Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund. One more resolution saw Council authorize the purchase of two waste collection trucks for $625,000 from Peterbilt and Granturk.

In updates, Engineer Annina Hogan said concrete work on Beckett Road had been completed, with paving to begin shortly, weather permitting. The police report listed 1,200 service calls for the Logan Township Police for October, with two DWI arrests.

Public Works Superintendent Mike Riley mentioned that work was scheduled at the Center Square Road and Heron Drive intersection, weather permitting. With some concerns about a harsh winter ahead, Minor expressed interest in looking for people to help with snow removal.

In new business, Council approved scheduling of the Logan Township Reorganization Meeting for Jan. 3, 2019.
