Lunobots Advance To SJ Regionals

SWEDESBORO — On Jan. 13, the South Jersey Robotics Lunabots out of Swedesboro were one of four teams that advanced to the First Lego League (FLL) South Jersey Regional Championships at Rowan University.

The Lunabots consist of 10 children from 4th to 7th grade who developed a team project based on improving the Human Water Cycle and programmed the Lego EV3 Mindstorm robot to complete missions on a 4 foot by 8 foot board.

The Lunabots competed against 14 other teams at Salem County Community College in the Salem Robot Rumble. The competition consisted of the robot challenge, team project presentation, demonstration of team building and FLL Core values, and robot design.

In addition to qualifying for the Regional Championship they won the trophy for the Best Team Project. The Lunabots developed a plan to use gray water to water new, upcoming Recreational Fields at Locke Ave Park.

In December, the Lunabots presented their idea to the Swedesboro-Woolwich Parks and Recreation Committee to make them aware of an environmentally friendly approach to watering the new fields.
