EAST GREENWICH — “State Champions” can be added once again to the East Greenwich Razzle Dazzles list of accomplishments as they captured the 2013-14 NJ Youth Soccer U14 State Championship.
The Razzles capped their State Tournament run with a 3-1 victory over Thistle FC out of North Jersey. The girls fell behind 1-0 early and battled back to tie the game by half time, and then proceeded to put two goals in the back of the net within a five minute span with less than 10 minutes left in the game.
The team advanced to the finals the day prior by beating FC Copa in the semi-final game by scoring the winning goal with less than two minutes left in regulation after going down in score twice during the game.
This is the second New Jersey title for this team in the past two years, winning the US Club-NJ Cup in 2012 as a U12 team.
Head Coach Bob Anicic stated, “I am beyond thrilled for this group of girls who work so hard to succeed both on and off the field. To win any state championship is an accomplishment, but to do it twice shows the commitment and hard work that is put in by this team. This Championship is also a victory for our families, EGSA Club, and our community members”.
By winning the New Jersey State Cup, these young ladies will get to take it up one more notch by now being invited to the USA Region 1 President’s Cup Tournament as the New Jersey representative versus other state winners up and down the Mid Atlantic Coast. The President’s Cup tournament will be held in Pittsburgh, PA. in May 2014.
