When new members come into the company and/or go through initial fire school they are issued a orange probationary member front piece for their helmet. This is done to help identify them on a emergency scene as a newer member, still learning the basics of becoming a firefighter. This makes it easier for more experienced personnel (Not always from town) to take time to explain different aspects of a job assignment that they might be doing for the first time. Recent Firefighter 1 graduates, Shea Walton, Mike Tanzola and Andrew Jasinski have been training hard and putting in time which has been evident at some recent incidents allowing them to gain vital experience that can’t be taught in a classroom to help earn their black ”Firefighter”front pieces. Congratulations on earning your helmet fronts gentleman, thank you for your hard work and dedication!

Protecting K9 Heroes is pleased to announce that K9 Tyson of Logan Township Police Department located in Bridgeport New Jersey, has been granted a the Ultimate K9 package. This includes a ballistic vest, trauma kit, and a Narcan kit. These gifts of protection were made possible by a donation to Protecting K9 Heroes and sponsored by Lori and Tony Arcari of “Tony the Painter”. Tyson is a 2.5-year-old Belgian Malinois and is partnered with Officer Giorgianni. Tyson loves to play ball and be with is handler. He does not to be away from his handler for long periods of time.
Naloxone, also known as Narcan, blocks the effects of opioids and reverses overdoses within 2-5 minutes. Each kit includes one 4 Mg device as well as a Narcan Holster. The K9 must still be seen by a veterinarian. Unfortunately, we risk losing K9s to the drug epidemic during searches and our goal is to have their handlers properly equipped in the case of emergencies. Handlers are instructed to receive training from their local veterinarians on the proper use of this product.
Our Trauma kits are equipped with first aid and trauma supplies for both the handler and K9. We created a backpack style trauma kit so that handlers can throw it on while on possibly long tracks. We want to ensure one hand is on the leash and one is free for emergencies if they arise. There is also room to add extra water, ammo, and anything else they see fit. Our kits are lightweight and weigh less than 6lbs. We hope this lightweight and handsfree trauma kit encourages handlers to always take their kits into the field with them.
Protecting K9 Heroes NFP Ltd is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that is operated on a 100% volunteer basis only. We can protect K9s through donations and support from the community. It is our mission to reduce the amount of K9 related deaths throughout the United States by supplying as many of them with the protection they need. We offer ballistic vests, K9 First Aid Kits, and Narcan Kits. If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation or helping to protect a K9, you may donate through our website at or checks can be mailed to: Protecting K9 Heroes P.O. Box 422 Glenwood, IL 60425. We can be reached at 708-480-2292. You can also follow Protecting K9 Heroes on Facebook!
