Free “Warrior Writers” Workshop for Veterans at GCC April 12

warrior webDEPTFORD TWP. — Veterans who have put down their weapons can now pick up pens or pencils in pursuit of peace and prosperity thanks to the Warrior Writers project at Gloucester County College Saturday, April 12 beginning at 10 a.m.

Sponsored by the Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission, this free two-hour workshop provides veterans a calm, creative environment for self-expression. Men and women who nobly served the country can share their experiences about military tours and the transition back to civilian life. No prior writing expertise is necessary.

Guiding the writers’ roundtable are former soldiers Jan Barry, of Teaneck, and Jennifer Pacanowski, of Allentown. Barry, a college journalism professor, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Pacanowski provided care as a combat medic while stationed in Iraq. Both have been published, penning “Life After War and Other Poems” and “Whose Soul is That?” respectively.

Warrior Writers is free and open only to military veterans. The workshop will take place in the GCC College Center. Space is limited. To RSVP, contact Diane Macris, administrator of the Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission, at 856-464-5214 or email dmacris@gccnj.edu.

Gloucester County College’s 250-acre campus is located on Tanyard Road in Deptford, just off Exit 56 of Route 55.
