2 MULLICA HILL – Be sure to visit Mullica Hill as it celebrates its annual Civil War Living History Weekend on Oct. 11 and 12.
The Civil War Living History weekend is fun for all ages. Learn history of the past by way of many re-enactors whose ancestors actually fought in the battles during the Civil War. Camps open at 10 a.m. with a firing competition at the Union camp, located behind Sisters Gifts at 39 S. Main Street.
Watch a daily skirmish at 2 p.m. on Church Street. View weapons displays, drill and firing demonstrations, candle dipping, pies baked over an open fire and other camp activities. On Sunday there will be a fashion show of uniforms and ladies wear of the period.
During the rest of the day, enjoy open house specials at many shops. Come to Gathering Room Interiors and celebrate 14 years in Mullica Hill with pumpkin painting for kids, refreshments, and live music. Don’t miss the Open House at Friend’s School on High Street that will feature food, kids games, crafts, bounce house, entertainment, bake shop and more.
The Rotary club will host build a scare crow at the American Legion from 10 to 1. Crafters and vendors will line the street. Grab a bag of kettle corn or visit a canteen for a specialty sandwich. On the north end of town there will be a huge outdoor antique sale as well as many shops in between posting special events.
At Kings Row, along with an outdoor antique sale, there will be a book on display documenting Union Soldier’s war experience, and Civil War era dress of adult and child. As evening comes on, tour the town on the Ghost Walk. Hear actual ghost stories about the town. For more information call 856-223-5440. Space is still available for vendors.
