WOOLWICH TWP. — Three world level veteran sabre fencers have been training recently at Infinity Fencing Alliance in Woolwich Township to represent the United States in the 2014 Veteran Fencing World Championships being held in Debrecen, Hungary.
Ellen O’Leary from Atlanta, Georgia has regularly traveled here this year to train with Fencing Master Wang Yung to prepare for the event. O’Leary, 2012 World Sabre Champion, is currently ranked number two in the world in her age group.
Jane Rode-Eyre, a Swedesboro native, is the current World Sabre Champion in her age group and will defend her title at the upcoming World Championships. Eyre has medaled in six out of her eight times competing at the World level including three gold, one silver and two bronze.
Both Rode-Eyre and Yung teach sabre fencing at Infinity Fencing Alliance. Yung, currently ranked eighth in the world, is also an active competitor himself and was 2011 World Sabre Champion. Earning a place on the USA Veteran World Team is difficult enough but Rode-Eyre, O’Leary and Yung have compiled an amazing record of four gold, three silver and one bronze medal for the United States in the last four Veteran World Championships.
Infinity Fencing Alliance is located in Woolwich Township. Fencing classes are offered for ages youth through adult and all levels and abilities.
