HARRISON TWP. — Friends School Mullica Hill honored International Day of Peace on Sept. 21 with a school-wide chalking event. Students at the pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school filled the campus sidewalks with colorful messages and drawings about peace, love and hope.

In 1981, the United Nations passed a resolution establishing that International Day of Peace “be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.” As a Quaker school rooted in an historic association with peace movements, Friends School celebrates this event every year with an activity involving the whole school.

During this year’s festivities, students spent the morning chalking and chatting. Faculty and staff also contributed their own drawings and messages, such as peace signs and affirmations. The morning concluded with music teacher Kate Hayden on guitar leading the entire school in song.
