On Saturday, May 20, the eight South Jersey ShopRite supermarkets owned and operated by Zallie Supermarkets Inc., rolled out the red carpet to welcome almost 50 local veterans and their families during the 6th Annual Memorial Day Luncheon To Honor Veterans. One of the veterans honored at the West Deptford location was Raymond J. Dowdy of Mullica Hill and Chrisitian Miller III of Clarksboro, US Army.
Dowdy, a veteran of Vietnam and Desert Storm, served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve. After leaving the military, he worked for a pharmaceutical company, manufacturing injectable medicines. Married with seven children and 11 grandchildren, he is involved with the Glassboro Memorial Post 679, VFW.
“The Zallie Family and our 2,000 associates are extremely proud to host this event every May”, say storeowners Bruce and George Zallie. “It can never truly repay the sacrifices made, but it’s our way of coming together to express our sincerest gratitude for all those who have served our country.” In addition to the catered luncheon, several departments in each store prepare generous gifts for the veterans to take home from this event, which is exclusive to Zallie Supermarkets.
