Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program will be available this summer

magick-7024H6Lgtgi2aaUnTHOROFARE — Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Jim Jefferson announced that the Gloucester County Division of Senior Services Nutrition Program will be distributing Senior Farmers’ Market vouchers/checks to 1,600 Gloucester County Senior Citizens beginning on June 26.

The Farmer’s Market vouchers may be used to buy locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs at 24 different farm markets and roadside markets in Gloucester County.

Director Damminger said, “This nutrition program helps senior citizens buy fresh grown produce, and help our farmers who grow and sell produce.”  Damminger said that the farmers who participate in the program do so voluntarily.

Freeholder Jefferson, Liaison to the Division of Senior Services said, “We live in the heart of the state’s growing region and providing access to fresh produce is vital to the health of our seniors. Many of our seniors live on a fixed income and every bit helps them and they can use these vouchers to enjoy the abundant produce that is grown locally.”

Each eligible person can receive five vouchers, each worth $5 to buy locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs at 24 different farm markets and roadside markets in Gloucester County.

To be eligible for the Farmers’ Market vouchers the senior must be 60 years of age or older, must have an annual income less than $22,311 for a household of one and $30,044 for a household of two.

An eligibility application must be completed when picking up the vouchers and the applicant must provide proof of age, residency and total income: 2016 Income Tax, Pension Statements and Social Security or Medicaid Card. The PAAD card is not accepted as proof of income.
