Pennsville Man Sentencing on Woolwich armed robbery

WOODBURY — Matthew S. Powers, 28 of Pennsville, was sentenced Dec. 14, 2017 to seven years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to committing armed robberies of service stations in West Deptford and Woolwich Townships within a week in December 2016.

The sentence was imposed by Superior Court Judge Robert P. Becker Jr. upon the recommendation of Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Steven Salvati.

In the Dec. 21, 2016 robbery of a Citgo station in West Deptford, cash was taken after the attendant was threatened with a pair of scissors. On Dec. 27, 2016, a knife was used to force an attendant to turn over cash in Woolwich Township.

Powers was subsequently arrested in connection with two other robberies of service stations in Salem County, to which he also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
