Dec. 19: While on a motor vehicle stop for speeding, police detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent probable cause search revealed two clear jars of marijuana under the passenger’s seat. The passenger, a 22 year old Camden man, was taken into custody. He was transported to headquarters where he was processed and served his summons for Possession of Under 50g of Marijuana. He was released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Dec. 20: While conducting a motor vehicle stop for speeding, police learned that the driver had a suspended license. In an effort to have a valid driver assume control of the vehicle, identification information was gathered from the passenger. That information revealed that his license was also suspended and he had an active warrant. After being taken into custody, the male revealed that his true identity was Levan Rice, 28 years old, from Camden City, who also had active warrants from Camden City and Oaklyn Municipal Courts. He was transported to headquarters where he was processed and served a summons for Hindering Apprehension. He was subsequently released on his own recognizance on the outstanding warrants and transported back to his place of employment.
Dec. 21: Police were dispatched to 630 Heron Dr. for a report of theft. The resulting investigation revealed that at approximately 0340 hours a vehicle entered the lot and unknown actor(s) cut a catalytic converter from the exhaust system of a company vehicle. Video surveillance was unable to provide enough evidence to identify the suspect(s).
Dec. 21: Police were dispatched to 510 Heron Dr. for a report of theft. The resulting investigation revealed that during the overnight hours unknown actor(s) cut a catalytic converter from the exhaust system of a company vehicle. There is no video surveillance in the area by which to identify the suspect(s).
Dec. 24: While investigating a motor vehicle complaint, officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Both the driver, a 46 year old Logan Township man, and passenger, a 32 year old Logan Township woman, were found to have active warrants. Both were arrested and upon being taken into custody, the passenger was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Additional paraphernalia and hypodermic syringes were also observed, in plain view, inside the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted and a quantity of suboxone and additional paraphernalia were located and seized. The two individuals were transported to headquarters, processed, served their summonses and released pending a date in Logan Township Municipal Court.
Dec. 27: Tristar Fulfillment, 520 Pedricktown Rd., reported a vehicle stolen from their lot. A review of surveillance footage in revealed that a tow truck entered the property during the overnight hours and towed the 1999 Ford Econoline van from the facility. No identifiers could be observed in order to develop a suspect.
Dec. 29: Incident to a several month long narcotics distribution investigation, police executed a search warrant at 88 Hancock Street. Two bags of cocaine, packaged for sale, 3.5 ounces of marijuana, two scales, two airsoft guns, $477 in cash and various drug paraphernalia was seized during the search. A resident of the home, 19 year old Fausto Martinez, was arrested. He was charged with Distribution of Marijuana, Possession of Over 50g of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Tampering with Evidence and Obstructing the Administration of Law and he also had an outstanding warrant from Logan Township Municipal Court. He was remanded to the Salem County Jail to await a detention hearing.
Dec. 31: Police were dispatched to a burglary at 101 Robins Run East. Family members of the former resident reported that unknown actor(s) had thrown a rock through a rear window to unlock a door. Once inside the suspect(s) rummaged through a safe, jewelry box and chest but nothing was immediately noted as missing.
Dec. 31: Police were dispatched to the I-295 southbound off ramp for a motor vehicle complaint and possible drug overdose. Upon officer’s arrival, the driver of the vehicle, a 40 year old Penns Grove man, was unresponsive to officers. All four doors of the vehicle were locked and the engine was running with the transmission in drive. Officers were forced to break a window in order to access the driver, who was in and out of consciousness and displaying indicators of heroin use/overdose. Gloucester County EMS deployed Narcan on the driver and he responded positively. While removing the driver from the vehicle for medical attention, a hypodermic syringe dropped from his lap and empty wax folds commonly used to package heroin were observed on the center console. A subsequent probable cause search resulted in the seizure of a wax fold containing suspected heroin and another hypodermic needle. The driver was transported to Inspira Medical Center in Woodbury for treatment. A warrant was secured to draw blood from him for evidentiary examination. Ultimately the driver was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Hypodermic Needle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Suspended, Reckless Driving and Delaying Traffic. He was medically cleared and transported to headquarters where he was processed and remanded to the Salem County Jail to await a detention hearing.
Jan. 2: Omega Engineering, 2 Killdeer Ct., reported the theft of approximately 60 pallets with an estimated value of $240 from their facility. Surveillance footage did capture the theft, however there was not sufficient evidence to identify the suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
Jan. 6: Police and the Logan Township Fire Department were dispatched to 135 Applewood Dr. for a residential fire. Upon arrival, officers, assisted by Woolwich Township Police, ensured there were no occupants in the home and evacuated the neighboring homes as a precaution. Firefighters from Logan Township, Woolwich Township, Greenwich Township, Thorofare and Woodbury responded and extinguished the blaze. No one was injured and the cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental.
