The GCLS Swedesboro Library is pleased to announce it was awarded a New Jersey Makers Day grant. The grant, titled “Olde Time Arts” celebrates traditional crafts and is geared toward children in 4th through 12th grade.

Children are invited to choose one project to complete from the following: Rag rug weaving, spinning (spinning wheel), felting (making pictures and animals from sheep’s wool), a woodworking project, mosaic sea turtle, decoupage greeting cards, and clay coil pots.

All projects will BEGIN on Saturday, March 10, from 11 to 12:30 p.m. Sessions run for 2 to 5 classes depending on the project with varying dates and times. Please call the library for more information and to register.

Adults:

Yoga Class – Fridays, March 2 & 9, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Yoga for Everyone! Learn basic yoga positions, breathing exercises and meditation techniques. Please bring your own mat or towel and water to drink.  Participants must register as space is limited.

Networking and Job Fairs – Tuesday, March 6, 1 p.m. Looking for a job? Meeting people is still one of the most effective ways to make connections toward a future career. Gain insight on how to network, both offline and online, how to navigate a job fair and make a first great impression.  Registration is required.

Make a Bracelet – Wednesday, March 7 – 6:30 p.m. Make a beautiful bracelet for spring with Miss Janice & Miss Jodie. Participants must register as space is limited.

Knit a Fabric Scarf – Tuesday, March 20 – 6:30 p.m. You’ll be asked again and again, “Where did you get that pretty scarf?”  Then, you can tell people, “I made it at the library!”.  Don’t miss out – register today at www.gcls.org.

Adult Book Club – Tuesday, March 27 – 7:00 p.m. The book club meets the last Tuesday of each month. The March selection is The Readers of Broken Wheel by Katarina Bivald. Tween/Teens:

Teen/Tween Book Club Blog – No time for a book club, but you love to read? Share your love of books in our new teen/tween book club blog! Write a short review on books you love or hate and find a new book to enjoy! Stop in to fill out a permission slip then start sharing your reviews! The slips will provide blog information.

Writers’ Club – Monday, March 12, 7 p.m. For ages 13 and up. Do you love writing? Join us on the second Mondays of each month. This time will be devoted to writing! You can work on your own writing or pull ideas from our binder. Your writings may be published in our Teen Express Literary Magazine or Midnight Voices.

Teen Book Club – The teen book club is Thursday, March 8, 4 p.m. Our book club meets the second Thursday of each month unless otherwise specified. The teens will be discussing I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson and together we will begin Every Day by David Levithan. Teens also have the opportunity to share books they have read and enjoyed with others in the group.

Teen/Tween Gaming – Join us on Thursday, March 15 – 6:30 p.m. Play Xbox, Wii, DS’s, and traditional board and card games. Bring a friend and have a great time!

Anime Club – Monday, March 26 – 5 p.m. Anime meets on the fourth Mondays at 5 p.m. Feel free to come dressed in costume. You can also bring Pokémon cards or Yu Gi Oh cards to play, watch an Anime movie/show and/or draw Manga characters.

Teen Advisory Board – We welcome teens to join our Teen Advisory Board. Be a Literacy Buddy and work with children, learn library skills, or help plan teen activities. Do you enjoy writing?  Learn to write reviews and create a quarterly teen newsletter. Call 856-467-0111 for more information on how you can volunteer.

Literacy Buddies – Looking for teens interested in being a Literacy Buddy. Teens will work one-on-one with a child who needs help learning English, learning to read, or needs help with homework.  Commitment is one hour a week. This program will resume in the fall. Call 856-467-0111 if you are interested.

Children:

Celebrate Read Across America & Reading – Thursday, March 1 – 7 p.m. Enjoy listening to stories and doing crafts. Refreshments will be provided. Don’t miss it! Registration required.

Literacy Buddies – Does your child need help with homework, reading or learning English – call us at 856-467-0111 and we will try to match your child with a Teen Volunteer. Literacy buddies takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 4 -5 p.m. Let us know which day is best for you.

FURever as Friends – Mondays, March 5 & 19 – 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Our therapy teams have returned for February! Visit with our therapy animals, read to them, share a picture book, brush them, and/or give them a treat. Some of our animals even do tricks! Registration is not required. Parents need to sign a permission slip for their children to enjoy reading and petting our therapy friends.

Toddlers & Babies:

Tuesday Story Time – Story Time is a fun time! Hear stories, sing songs, and make a craft! We meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. (Tuesdays, March 6, 13, 20, & 27) Story Time is best suited for children ages 2-1/2 to 5 years of age. Registration required.

Wednesday Story Time and Dance – Join the fun Wednesday morning story times.  Wednesday morning story time meets at 10:30 a.m. March’s dates are March 7, 14, 21, & 28 – Library meeting room. Registration required.

Baby Music Time – “Sing, Dance, and Play” – Bring your baby to a fun time of music – familiar songs, activities and finger plays.  Baby Time will be held on Thursdays, March 1 & 15 – 10:30 a.m. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Toddler Music Time – “Sing, Dance, and Play” – Your toddler will enjoy a fun time marching, playing instruments, learning finger plays, and singing familiar songs. This month’s dates are Thursdays, March 8 & 22. Registration is required as space is limited.
