SWEDESBORO – A case of mistaken identity has caused some ruffled feathers for Swedesboro’s Red Hen Restaurant.
The restaurant, located on Kings Highway, began receiving nasty phone calls and social media reviews from all over the country after the owners of a Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington, Va., asked President Donald Trump’s press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, to leave their restaurant.
Angry Trump supporters lashed out at several different Red Hen Restaurants across the country according to reports. Swedesboro’s Red Hen, which is independently owned, received nasty phone messages and reviews on sites such as Yelp.
Yelp itself had to step in, posting an Active Cleanup Alert. It stated, “This business recently made waves in the news, which often means that people come to this page to post their views on the news. While we don’t take a stand one way or the other when it comes to these news events, we do work to remove both positive and negative posts that appear to be motivated more by the news coverage itself than the reviewer’s personal consumer experience with the business. As a result, your posts to this page may be removed as part of our cleanup process beginning Monday, June 25, 2018, but you should feel free to post your thoughts about the recent media coverage for this business on Yelp Talk at any time.”
Local supporters have rallied to the Swedesboro Red Hen’s defense and left their own positive comments and reviews.
Business was booming during the Dancing In The Streets event on July 18 with people filling The Red Hen’s tables set out in front of the restaurant on the sidewalk and in the middle of the closed street, next to the event.
