NATIONAL PARK — An old fashion American Carnival complete with a dunk tank and water ice will be the theme of this year’s Senior Citizen Picnic announced Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Jim Jefferson.
The picnic will be held on Sept. 18 (rain date Sept. 19) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Red Bank Battlefield Park, National Park.
Lunch, music, live entertainment and dance contests will be presented throughout the day. In keeping with the Carnival theme, this year’s picnic will feature a dunk tank and seniors can take a shot to dunk Freeholder Jim Jefferson in the water tank. Also new this year, the Carnival picnic will include a choice of water ice or ice cream.
“The Annual Senior Picnic is a fun event and I know many residents look forward to coming out and dancing, having a great time and meeting up with friends,” said Damminger. “It is a great way for older residents to learn about services and programs that are available to them while enjoying lunch and entertainment.”
Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Division of Senior Services said, “This tradition brings together 1,200 seniors from all corners of the county, some of whom are old friends and some who will meet for the first time. It is a remarkable way to honor our seniors and provide them with a day that is social and educational.”
“Come out and take a chance on dunking me!” challenged Jefferson.
Jefferson said that Gloucester County is home to 51,470 residents aged 60 and older.
The picnic is open to residents 60 years and older. Tickets are $2 each and are available at the Division of Senior Services at 115 Budd Blvd., West Deptford and the County’s 6 Nutrition sites. The ticket price helps defray the cost of the event, which is funded with the Title III Older Americans Act area grant.
