WEST DEPTFORD — The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners announced that the Annual Senior Citizen Picnic will be held on Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Red Bank Battlefield Park in National Park. The rain date is Sept. 22.
Lunch, music, live entertainment and dance contests will be presented throughout the day. Local favorites will be available including Philly pretzels, Mr. Softee and Tastycake.
The picnic is open to residents 60 years and older. Tickets are $2 each and are available at the Division of Senior Services at 115 Budd Blvd, West Deptford. The ticket price helps defray the cost of the event, which is funded with the Title III Older Americans Act area grant.
Commissioners Director Robert M. Damminger said that this year’s theme is “Philly, Philly” and that seniors attending are encouraged to wear their favorite Philadelphia sports team gear.
Damminger said, “The Senior Picnic is always a great event. The seniors have a great time, they dance, have lunch and learn about services and programs that are available in a fun venue. It is a true tradition, and we are looking forward to seeing our seniors in person after having to modify the picnic last year.”
Commissioner Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Division of Senior Services said, “Our staff services thousands of seniors a year, and the picnic provides a day that is fun, social and educational. About 1,200 seniors attend the event each year, and it is great for everyone to see old friends and meet new ones too. Plus, they get to throw a ball and get a chance at dunking me.”
Jefferson said that Gloucester County is home to over 50,000 residents aged 60 and older.
