WOOLWICH TWP. — The Kingsway Marching Band won the 2021 Group IV-A NJ State Championship in October. The band also won the Best Percussion and Best Music in their division.
Director Joe Henderson and Assistant Director Mike Massaro lead the Marching Band. Other instructors include Battery – Mike Keller; Front Ensemble – Jay Bruner; Color Guard – Sasha Keating; Assistant Color Guard – Bridgette Lamaree; Visual – Sam Graifer.
The band’s competition program was named “Night in the City” and was described as a unique, jazz-themed show set in the 1920’s.
The band started sectional rehearsals in June and had two weeks of band camp in August. They competed during the season in eight shows in addition to playing at football games.
Kingsway also performed in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade. This is the second time they were choses to perform, having marched before in 2019.
Assistant Band Director Massaro is a 2016 Kingsway graduate who studied under the band director, Henderson. Both are jazz musicians specializing in trumpet.
Massaro completed a music degree at Rowan University and is now also the Middle School Band Director.
